5.0 out of 5 stars Haunted History with an interesting and unique twist!, March 12, 2003
By A Customer
I have a lot of Troy Taylor books, because I live about 10 minutes away from Alton. Troy is a nice man, so ignore the ignorant comments of people who wrote in, because they don't know him! This book tells about several Historical Hauntings that happen in this region. It have everything from the Civil War ghosts, to Elijah Lovejoy. You'll be happy you bought and read this wonderful book by a wonderful man. I also recomend Season of the Witch. You'll love it-I did!

3.0 out of 5 stars a history book pretending to be a book of hauntings, January 27, 2006
As a former resident of the Alton area I was hoping to read many ghost stories from the region; however, at least half of this book has nothing to do with ghosts. This is far more a history book than a hauntings book. I loved learning more of the history of the region since we learned little of it in school, but I fail to understand why there were so many stories included that were history only and absolutely no connection to an even suspected haunting. An example of this is the chapters on Robert Waldlow and Paula Sims, fascinating chapters of local history but not hauntings.
Secondly, Mr. Taylor seems to think proofreading is running your work through your computer's spell check and grammer check. This was supposed to be a revised edition of this book, but it was filled with typing errors. Totally wrong words were used (such as "on" instead of "one", the wrong tense of words were used (such as "stop" instead of "stopped" or "stopping" or words were skipped all together. This made for difficult reading at times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, June 20, 2001
By A Customer
This is an errie book. It sent chills down my spine when I read it. --If you are interested in seeing these places, I discovered that Alton has a special tour of the homes in Taylor's book. It is a neat town to visit.
