About the Author
Howard Balzer is a 1974 graduate of Hofstra University and has been covering pro football since 1976, when he began working for College and Pro Football Newsweekly in N.Y. In January 1978, he was named the pro football editor for The Sporting News, where he worked until 1991.
From 1980-88, Balzer was an analyst on ESPN's coverage of the NFL Draft. He won an Emmy in St. Louis in 1986 for his commentaries on KPLR-TV.
Currently, Balzer is a national columnist for Pro Football Weekly; an editor and columnist for the Internet provider Pro Sports Xchange; senior editor of Lindy's Pro Football Magazine; a talk-show host on KFNS radio in St. Louis; and a regular contributor to ESPN Radio. Since 1988, he has been the secretary/treasurer for the Professional Football Writers of America.
Balzer was born on July 21, 1951, in Oceanside, N.Y. He and his wife, Adene, live in St. Louis County and have one son, Zachary; two sons, Keith and Jared, and two daughters, Aimee and Rachel, from previous marriages; and one grandson, Asher.
