Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Some words, phrases and structures are used much more than others in any language. When you learn these most common forms first, you greatly increase your communicative ability in German in a minimum of time. Speaking High Frequency German an exceptionally complete, fast and easy to understand audiocassette course and book to mastering the reading, writing, and speaking of practical everyday 'high frequency' German. This tapes and text quickly take the learner from beginning to advanced level German by teaching the listener to speak a maximum amount of useful and practical high frequency German in a minimum of time. Research shows that most foreign language learners spend over half of their time looking up meanings and guessing at answers instead of learning the language. Speaking High Frequency German is an exciting and effective 'learn on your own' taped course that literally 'takes the foreign out of language by providing clear English translations, explanations, and answers for all Italian exercises. An American instructor talks you through the course in English while a trained native German speaker teaches the language the way it is really spoken. This time saving element completely eliminates guesswork and frustration so you always quickly know and understand what you are learning. Furthermore, clear and concise answer keys allow you to check your own work throughout the book providing you with immediate feedback as to your progress. This marvellous text also provides you with a pronunciation guide, notes on culture, complete answer keys, English translations, a complete verb list, diagrams, illustrations, as well as writing and conversation practice sections to enhance the learning of German even more. Suitable for all levels and ages, Complete High Frequency German ideal for travelers, businesspeople, students and language aficionados of all levels and backgrounds.

Why high frequency language? How would you feel if someone taught a foreign exchange student at your house the word 'antidisestablishmentarianism'? You would say 'Why did they teach you that word?' 'It isn't even English.' 'No one even knows what it means.' The fact is that it is English, but it is a low frequency word. All languages are literally cluttered with tens of thousands nearly useless low frequency words and structures that the average student must stumble over. The problem is that many foreign language authors and teachers love to teach their students such words because they think they sound neat, and as a result their students never learn to really communicate in a second language. Fortunately for us, all languages also have little gems called 'high frequency' words which are used thousands of times more often than other words and structures and are therefore much more valuable to the language learner because they increase communicative ability in a minimum of time. Complete High Frequency German contains only high frequency language in its pages.

From the Publisher
This wonderful audiocassette tape course takes the listener from beginning to advanced level quickly and easily. An American instructor talks you through the course in English while a trained native speaker teaches you to speak the language the way it is really spoken. The emphasis is on speed, simplicity, and on teaching you to quickly communicate without guesswork and tedious grammar. The complete text and listening guide provide you with additional information on not only speaking, but also reading and writing the language. We can't stress too strongly how highly we recommend Speaking High Frequency series. Try it. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Fast and Effective Communication!!!, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
I am a former US diplomat and current international business consultant. I can say that Language Dynamics courses are the only courses I know of that are truly dedicated to effective and immediate communication in the target language. Academic courses often reflect the literary interests of professors, many of whom never had the experience of learning the target language as a second language. With these courses, you can hit the streets after every lesson knowing you can say more than you could yesterday.

5.0 out of 5 stars METHINKS THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT A GOOD THING!!, November 10, 2000
By A Customer
I am extremely pleased with the excellent value I received with my purchase of 'Speaking High Frequency German'. Such a refreshing approach to a typically difficult to present language. I loved the relaxed and natural teaching approach of the speakers (both the native German speaker and the American instructor). I have tried other language courses in a number of languages and it is my opinion that the Language Dynamics method is unequaled in speed and simplicity. This is not to say that one cannot find more 'difficult' courses elsewhere. Of course this is possible. But if you wish to learn the basics of German quickly and easily you'll never find a faster, easier, and more enjoyable way to do it. I really appreciate what the author did to bring German to life for me with these tapes and to help me actually learn how to speak it so fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Frequency German Is the Way to Go!, April 7, 2001
By A Customer
I am far from being a linguist and I don't profess to be one now that I can communicate in German. It does appear to me however that I learned a great deal of very useful German that I was able to use immediately in Germany and was understood. Also, the frustration I was spared by the instructor and native speaker on the tapes going slowly enough for me to hear the accent really helped. Most of all, I loved having all the meaning given to me on the tapes to I didn't have to look up anything. The manual was very useful too.
