Editorial Reviews
Book Description
The North American movie palace was ingeniously designed to transport patrons away to an exotic world. The design and architecture of these theatres were often modeled after European palaces. Over the decades many became obsolete, were destroyed or lie in ruin, but recent years have seen a movement to restore these national treasures. Palaces of the Night chronicles the history of these landmark structures, their intriguing stories, and their decay and heartening rebirth.

About the Author
John C. Lindsay, Toronto writer and freelance broadcaster, has been a lifelong movie lover. He has explored theatres in dozens of cities in many parts of the world, and has been fascinated by both the buildings themselves and by the life around them. Mr. Lindsay graduated from the University of Western Ontario and from the Faculty of Education of the University of Toronto. He has been a guest lecturer at several Canadian Universities and has appeared on many radio and television shows. His vast knowledge of theatres and theatrical lore have made him a leading authority on Canadian theatre history.
