"Head, shoulders and spine ahead of the rest." Adventure Travel

Product Description

From the publisher of the legendary South America Handbook comes the fourth edition of the most practical and informative guide available to this remarkably diverse country and its breathtakingly beautiful island neighbor. Husband-and-wife team Robert and Daisy Kunstaetter bring a combined total of 40 years of living and traveling in Latin America to their coverage of this tiny equatorial nation, leading readers on excursions both on and off the "banana pancake trail," including Quito, the jungle, the Pacific Coast, the national parks, and volcanoes. The book also includes the most up-to-date information on the Galapagos Islands -- home to giant tortoises, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and an endless variety of plants and flowers. A new-and-improved table of contents and a new front map highlighting the best sights help visitors plan their trip, and full-color maps cross-referenced with the text aid readers in deciding where to stay, eat, drink, and chill out. Along with 16 pages of stunning full-color photographs, the book includes complete details on the developing ecotourism travel scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best travel guide to Ecuador, June 19, 2000
By L. Harrison (Punta del Este) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Of the five guides I've used on Ecuador, this it the best. Great maps and extensive city/town coverage. Tips on travel and travel times, restaurants, hotels and sights. Good work with adventure and ecotourism as well. If you're tired of the "budget" guides, this one's for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best GUIDEBOOK TO ECUADOR PERIOD!!!, July 25, 2003
By Jack Kaplan (Roswell, Georgia USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have traveled extensively to Ecuador for the last 15 years and used to use Lonely Planet which is also a good book but by far the best is FootPrints.. Although it doesn't have as many colorful pictures as the other books, it by far has the most information, phone numbers and information as all the others combined. The Insight book which I also own has a lot of nice 4 color pictures but leave it at home!! No Use at all. The Footprints edition tells all the information from the larger cities to even the smaller towns and out of the way places. I am a freelance travel consultant and have studied all guidebooks to Ecuador, I have checked some of the hotels and restaurants and it seems to be very accurate. Things do change in Ecuador, the food, the exchange, the buses, etc. This was my 15th trip and once again I would not travel without this guide... Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is really the best!, August 4, 2000
By Edwin Hättenschwiler (Zürich, Switzerland) - See all my reviews
Prior to travelling Ecuador's countryside in 1999/2000 I studied some of the related guide books, among them the Footprint and Lonely Planet guides (the latter also very good, but not as good as Footprint's).

The Footprint Ecuador Handbook is by far the best, most accurate and detailed travel book on Ecuador I've seen, with a wealth of information and directions particularly for people planning to travel on their own. The book - although not a lightweight - also is worth its price in gold during your stay in Ecuador...

1.0 out of 5 stars outdated
This book seems to have outdated and old information. I would not buy this book for a practical guide to Ecuador. It would be a bad choice.
