Absolutely fascinating! -- Daily Mail

An explosive new book! -- New Magazine

Product Description

The most candid and controversial book on cosmetic plastic surgery ever to be published. Laurence Kirwan is not only a world famous cosmetic surgeon, operating on patients each side of the Atlantic, he is also an established media pundit on the subject. Billed by Tatler magazine as "Top Surgeon" – one of 13 worldwide – he is at the cutting edge of his profession. The book explodes many common preconceptions and includes the unadorned low down on:

- who in the public eye has had what done and with what success
- what the cosmetic industry giants do not want you, the consumer to know
- which mainstream products are useless and what does work

- why and how celebrities appear to be perennially beautiful
- how we can all compete on the looks stakes
- procedures, costs, nutrition, lifestyle and related products The book explores the relationship between our perception of beauty and the media and offers a philosophy for living in this self-obsessed age. Above all, it is a celebration of beauty in all its imperfections, asymmetries and humanness and the choices we make as individuals.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like hanging out with a bully, October 5, 2008
Though I enjoyed reading the perspective of a cosmetic surgeon on celebrity beauty, I cringed at his many insensitive declarations of who "needed" what procedure.

I came away from the book with the same sense of panic that I used to feel: "Be beautiful or be shamed," that had led me to undergo 15 cosmetic surgeries by age 36.

Because I'd listened to blunt opinions of other doctors such as Dr. Kiwan, I have suffered many poor surgical outcomes.

Now---post-surgically---shamed, I wish for invisibility.
