Product Description

A classic available again! A beautifully illustrated glossary of ALL terms used in the Breed Standards for purebred dogs worldwide. Terms are clearly defined, with reference to specific breeds where the term is used, and most are illustrated with detailed pen & ink drawings by Mary & Peggy Davidson. This is an invaluable reference book for ANYONE involved in the sport of purebred dogs at any level - breeders, exhibitors (conformation, agility, obedience, etc.), judges, as well as veterinarians, vet techs, or vet students. *This is a reprint, not a revision or update!

From the Inside Flap

"Harry Spira’s CANINE TERMINOLOGY, is in my opinion destined to become the definitive work in its field. Dr. Spira’s writing is clear, concise and easy to understand…his explanations are helped immeasurably by the artists’ total brilliance…The quality of Margaret and Marian Davidson’s drawing is superb." R.L Curtis R.A.S. Kennel Control Journal

If you can have only one book on canine terminology and structure, this is it. Thorough, interesting and well illustrated. It will help anyone understand breed standards and breeders' "dog talk".

This is a very useful book that should be on every dog breeder's bookshelf. I go back to it often to review many things relating to canine conformation

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Dog Enthusiast Should Have One, April 6, 2008
Canine Terminology by Harold Spira is a timeless classic that every dog enthusiast should own. If you are the slightest bit interested in breeding dogs, showing dogs or just knowing about dogs this book explains clearly, concisely and with excellant drawings what all the terms that you will find in dog breed standards and show reports actually mean. It is written for all levels of knowledge in a non-patronising way that imparts knowledge and instills confidence in the reader and also shows a love and respect of the subject. This book is widely recommended by many courses on dogs, quite deservedly so.
