Product Description
The MindBody Audio Program is a set of three CD's comprising a complete educational program for mindbody treatment of back pain, Tension Myositis Syndrome, and other disorders. CD One is a recording of a one hour seminar entitled "The Mind: The Missing Link in the Back and Neck Pain Puzzle". This seminar has been attended by hundreds of individuals at Dr. Schechter's Beverly Hills office.

CD Two is entitled "TMS: Diagnosis and Treatment". This CD will teach you about how a diagnosis of TMS is made and what a treatment program consists of. CD Three is entitled "The Psychology of Tension Myositis Syndrome". It's a dialogue between Dr. Schechter and Donald Dubin, MFCC, a psycho-therapist who has treated hundreds of individuals with a diagnosis of TMS since 1996.

In total, the educational program, on CD's, will teach you about this remarkable mindbody approach to back pain, and other disorders. This set of three CDs has been recently digitally re-mastered and is also available on audio cassettes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly worth it for anyone suffering from TMS, October 18, 2006
The first thing I noticed about these CDs, especially the first one, which is his monthly group lecture, is that they've been rather poorly digitally treated for background noise.

They've added a noise gate to cut out background noise, but it's far too vicious, and sometimes chops the start and ends of words off, making Dr Schechter sound strangely robotic!

Anyway, if you can get past this flaw, the CDs themselves are full of great material.

The first CD is the lecture he gives to his TMS patients initially after diagnosis. It's a comprehensive and scientific round-up of all the evidence pointing to the existence of TMS. I think he's done a superb job here, and it's something I wouldn't be at all ashamed to share with my own Doctor, as he talks very authoritatively and medically on the topic.

The second CD is information about diagnosis and treatment. It doesn't contain a step-by-step plan, unlike Dr Brady's work, but it does talk in general about different factors and approaches that have helped his patients. It also contains one case-study live interview, which although doesn't go into too much depth, was still interesting to hear, if only to reinforce what we know already. It also contained a couple of new treatment ideas which I hadn't encountered before in any of the Sarno/Brady material.

The third CD is an interview with a psychiatrist that Dr Schechter works with. I found this more interesting than the second CD. They cover about 8 different cases and point out the difficulties and symptoms that each patient had, and how they were able to overcome them. All good inspiring stuff, and worth listening to several times to hammer home the message that there are real people out there like you having success healing.

All in all, I would rate this set 4 out of 5 stars.
Pro: Good material, and it's accessible and scientific, so you could use these CDs as a good introduction to TMS for your friends, family or doctor. Reasonably priced.
Contra: Sound quality is irritating at first. No specific step-by-step treatment plan. Case studies don't got into as much detail as I'd like.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid DR SCHECHTER, January 3, 2009

Avoid DR SCHECHTER, January 3, 2009
By Peter Choyce "peter choyce" (LA CA) - See all my reviews

I have never met a more rude, pompous, arrogant and greedy Doctor in my life. You are a fool if you pay 32 dollars for this CD. All the original concepts about TMS are all eloquently documented by schechters mentor, Dr Sarno. Dr John Sarnos books can be found on Amazon for a couple dollars. Healing Back pain is a 20 year old best seller. I found it here for 2 dollars used. Not 32 dollars. Unscrupulous Drs are incontestably one of the biggest problems in our broken health care system today.

I have a excruciating pain condition that I live with; spondylothesis, arthritis and severe lumbar joint degeneration. Dr John Sarno's book helped me find relief for many years, until I became debilitated and officially declared disabled a year ago. I need help badly and found DR Schechter on the internet. I was so excited to make an appointement with his office.

I cannot describe the hurt and how dissapointed I am in how he treated me. I was depressed for days from his abuse. He began with a lack of basic courtesy towards me, a new patient, who came to him in all earnestness, as humble and polite as can be and in severe pain.

I sat there in his office. The first time I saw him, he came strutting out and said to his staff, "Charge that last patient 350 dollars." I felt that was really crude to say with me sitting right there. Still,I let it pass as I just drove 20 miles thru LA traffic, paid 11 dollars to park and needed help so badly. However, when i met with him I could not believe how fast 15 minutes went by. My head was whirling. I had a new diagnosis, of TARDIF DISKENISIA, which I DON'T HAVE (a condition where a patient involuntarily shakes, due to too many psychotropic drugs- I am on none. The DR should of been able to decipher between a person who stretches in pain and one who has manic reflexes.)

At that time a some kind of silent bell went off and I was ushered out of his office. I had exactly that much time to tell my story, one that involves 20 years of pain, how I deal with it by swimming an hours worth of laps a day, and how I became disabled as all my learned DR SARNO techniques fell apart a year ago. He states his website the importance of LISTENING to patients, which is all Bull. No one has the chance to say or hear anything in the 350 dollar accorded limit of time. It was like being diagnosed by a DR over the radio. He threw at me a list of NEUROLOGISTS and hurriedly ushered me out of his office, checking several times with his staff about whether or not my insurance was in order.

I told him and his staff that I just quit KAISER, because all they did was put me on methadone, Now I am hooked on dangerous opiates, my goal of which was to get off of. They were aware that I had scripts to fill and papers to sign before I came for the appointment. When I showed the Dr my papers that would make me eligible to receive HOME HEALTH CARE, he refused to sign them. It must of been a great inconvenience for him. What good is a DR who refuses to sign papers? He also said he would not fill prescriptions for Methadone. That means that I can go and withdraw on my own. He's obviously too busy listening. To other people. Not me anyway.

DR schechter made me so uncomfortable I felt the same kind of clash you would have with the high school bully. I told him I had all my medical records in order and was ready to receive whatever treatment he had available. But I realized I was saying this while he had me walking at a hurried pace down the hall so he could get to his next scheduled client. It's not about proper health care or listening to patients, it's about maximizing profits by maximizing the amount of patients you are able to fit into the day. At 350 a pop times an office in a high rise off Wilshire in Beverly Hills I should of known that no one was going to be bothered with me. It's better to take the people that have obvious psycho somatic pain as that is really what DR SCHECHTER sells his snake oil to. People who are really in obvious pain just present a lot of work to him and he has no idea how to help. He threw a list of Neurologists at me, none of whom, i found out the next day, accept insurance.

There is a big problem with health care in this country. Rich overfed Doctors that insult disabled people by choosing who they LIKE and who they toss while making 350 dollars every 15 minutes is symptomatic of a very sick system. Dr Sarnos book made me fully aware of how stress plays into pain. Dr Schechter knowingly increased my stress levels and as I write this, caused the TMS portion of what drives my pain to exacerbating levels. Only in America will you find mean spirited people who are able to graduate medical school without any interest or talent in basic courtesy or making people feel better. All he does is rip off Dr John Sarno. He has noting original to add to Dr Sarnos theories. He makes money, a ton of it, with his expensive suit starring at me, by plagiarizing other people. This man is all about himself and is 100 percent profit motivated. He does not care about your pain or your feelings.

AVOID DOCTOR ScHECHTER. More dangerous would be if he DID like you. Then you could waste a lot of time and energy instead of putting all that into actually getting better. Dr Sarno's programs are designed to NOT have you habitually come back. Not for charlatans like DR SCHECHTER. Like a chiropractor or other charlatans, the money is made by the patients repeated office visits. 350 a pop? Maybe that is the standard, but it doesn't make you well. It's fine if you have money to burn but I don't want my insurance company to get ripped off by this bill when I actually arrived home depressed, with more stress and a list of neurologists and psychiatrists- again, who I called and none of which accept insurance.

He will make your back pain ten times worse with his uncaring demeanor, wholly unprofessional attitude and high school principle way of talking down to you. Also, when was the last time you spent 32 dollars for a CD? Even someone as hypnotized by money as he should realize you can sell way more books at half the price, but that just shows his idiot greed. Go to Amazon and get DR SARNOs book for a dollar. Anything schechter has to say all comes from DR Sarno anyway.

I'm just disappointed to find that the self appointed (apparently) adherent of DR SARNO turned out to be a egomaniac in an expensive suit who could use a good psychiatrist himself. He exploits other peoples work, sells it back to people, without even bothering to be the slightest bit charming or intelligent sounding. He typifies health care in America.
