Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
There is no better indicator of a craft's resurgence or ascendance than the number of new books devoted to the subject. And although knitting's revival has been in the works since the beginning of the millennium (if not before), this new innovative book signals a more sophisticated knitter in the making.Epstein never disappoints. Her retinue and reputation expand with every book, from Knitting Hats (1997) to this second command performance (given the phenomenal kudos for Knitting on the Edge). It is simple, really, in this ultimate collection of more than 350 different choices for ribs, cords, appliques, colors, and a type called nouveau. Document it via a color swatch, easy-to-understand directions, and stitch repetition information. Then practice it in a breathtaking handful of patterns, such as a knockout circus circle scarf to a showstopping cozy coat with fur-ball trim. What's next, Nicky? Barbara Jacobs

Product Description
Nicky Epstein, one of today's hottest knitwear designers, has created a fabulous follow-up to last season's bestselling Knitting on the Edge. With hundreds of new and super edgings to try, it's a must-have in every knitting library.

Practically every knitted project needs an edging, and with her hit knitting reference, Knitting on the Edge, Nicky Epstein took the humble traditional rib to new heights. She now proudly presents a companion volume that's equally informative and rich in designs. Knitting Over the Edge takes the craft further, with more than 300 unusual edge combinations and shapings that will add a special, unique touch to any piece. The striking patterns will keep knitters of every level busy experimenting with different types of ties, loops, knots, braids, twists, bobbles and more. The topics explored in depth include cords, appliqués (such as flowers, leaves, hearts, and geometrics), color work, and a host of truly extraordinary corners, angles, bindings, and closures. A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.

Knitwear designer Nicky Epstein has gained nationwide recognition for her informative workshops, her distinctive and innovative work, and her whimsical sense of style. She has authored numerous books including Knitting on the Edge, Crochet for Barbie Doll, and Knits for Barbie Doll. Her designs have also been featured in Vogue Knitting magazine, as well as many other publications, as well as on television and in art exhibitions.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique and worthwhile collection, August 4, 2005
By sfknitter (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
Anyone hesitating if Nicky Epstein's second book on knitting borders is worthwhile - worry no more. As her personal intro says, "...completely new...", it is a wonderfully fresh, new addition to her first collection. And, there are many of these new edgings - this is not a skinny, part 2 type of follow up book.

The format of the book is the same - clear concise swatch photos, wonderful use of yarns to highlight stitches, and a larger section on color knitting. You will be able to customize your knitting w. ease since the edging patterns details are clear and concise. The author gives a wonderful intro on texture and size as a jump start point for you. The edgings are organized in logical style categories w. a fresh idea of one, "Noveau" added - it stays true to its title.

As in the first book, patterns highlighting her new edgings are included. The patterns are like palettes for her fantastc new collection of edgings. This one is a keeper, for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have resource for ALL knitters!, September 28, 2005
I would give this book 10 stars if I could, it's just that great!
The popular author of Knitting on the Edge now offers a new book for knitters: Knitting over the Edge. The subject of both books is, predictably, creative edges for knitwear. In this valuable reference, you'll find more than 350 decorative borders for knitted garments of all types.
The lush American Beauty Capelet featured on the cover is just a hint of the treasures you'll find within. Honestly, you could spend a lifetime exploring the exotic ribs, cords, appliqués, and patterns offered by this extraordinarily creative and talented knitter and author.
Beautiful as this book is, however, you'll also find lots of meat inside: plenty of diagrams, concise instructions, close-up photos of knitted edges, and gorgeous, irresistible designs.
Highly recommended for knitters of all skill levels.
-Sharilyn Miller, author of Bead on a Wire

4.0 out of 5 stars Knitting over the edge, November 7, 2005
By Bernice Smith (New Hampshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have three books by Nicky Epstein. All have errors in them, but are easily corrected by a search. I went to Vogue Knitting and found corrections for her "Edge" books, and for Knitted embelishments, I went to Interweave press. All the books are great, despite the flaws. They give me tons of ideas to add to my designs. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of the books.
