June's favorite books as a child: Reading books gave me a great appreciation for how authors use words. In high school, reading poetry led me to writing poetrynever guessing that I would collect poems in my adult years and become an anthologist. Here are some of my favorites: Charlotte's Web - This book helped me appreciate the perspective of even the smallest creature. To this day, I carry most spiders out of the house and place them outside. Nancy Drew mysteries - These books helped me take a 'detective' approach to my observations of puzzling events. Where the Red Fern Grows - My 6th grade teacher read this book to the class. I've read it many times since then, including to my own children. The Little House on the Prairie books - They made me wonder what it would be like to live as a frontier girl. June's favorite books as an adult: Markings by Dag Hammarskjold; Human Options by Norman Cousins; The Essential Rumi by Coleman Barks; The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson; Earth Prayers, edited by Elizabeth Roberts; How to Write a Book Proposal by Michael Larsen; The Prince of Tides and Beach Music by Pat Conroy; Pattern Language by Christopher Alexander; The Chalice & the Blade by Riane Eisler.
