Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Issue 11 will feature contributions from many of your favorite McSweeney’s contributors, as well as a chorus of new voices. This issue returns to the classic McSweeney’s format last seen in Issue 5, complete with a letters section and an interview with a prominent scientist, in this case with those investigating the recently found collossal squid, the largest known to man. Aside from that, Issue 11 features perhaps our best-yet collection of fiction. Many truly stunning stories here.

Issue 11 comes with a FREE DVD featuring readings by most of the contributors, a Literary Cribs episode starring Jonathan Ames, Dave Eggers interviewing Denis Johnson, Daphne Beale singing in Nepali, and an intern talking about how writers like their coffee. An instant classic of the DVDs attached- to-literary-quarterlies genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Short Stories, January 1, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This is a great collection of short fiction, funny letters to the editor, and a play. There isn't a single theme and the authors are not as well-known as the last issue from McSweeney's--"The Mammoth Treasury of Thrilling Tales"--but it is still a great anthology. The DVD that accompanies the book is fairly low budget, but very funny and almost worth the purchase price all by itself. I would encourage people interested in this book to buy it through McSweeney's own web site if possible--it is nice to support independent publishers directly and they have a lot of neat stuff on their web site that you will miss if you buy from Amazon. This will be an enjoyable book for all lovers of quirky, funny and very well written short fiction.
