Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Fifty seems to be the number of choice for political handbooks this year (see MoveOn’s 50 Ways to Love Your Country and Ben Cohen and Jason Salzman’s 50 Ways to Show George the Door in 2004). Sterling, of Konformist.com, appeals to those who are so disillusioned and cynical about both major political parties that they didn’t even vote in 2000. "Lest the election be close enough to steal again, make sure that your friends go to the polls, if only out of anger," he advises. Most of Sterling’s 50 reasons will be familiar to those who follow the news-the Enron corruption scandal, the failure to find Osama bin Laden, the charge that Bush disregarded intelligence about a terrorist move on the U.S.-and like other Bush-hating texts, this one brings together disparate pieces of information. The harsh tone (and four-letter words) won’t appeal to all who want to unseat Bush, but those who sat on the sidelines in 2000 may be tempted to check this out. The book includes short contributions by bestselling author Greg Palast, Paul Krassner and others.

Review

Robert Sterling is bracingly rude. -- The Guardian (UK), 7/10/04

Sterling's concise handbook of facts, figures and felonies (is) enlivened by his sardonic (some would say "demented") wit... -- New York Press, June 2-8 2004

Very provocative... very informative tell-all book... laid out in a nice, neat and easily referenced format. -- L.A. Vess, gaywired.com

5.0 out of 5 stars PASS THIS BOOK AROUND!, May 27, 2004
I picked up this book in my bookstore, and I opened to a short essay by Mark Crispin Miller. Reason #24: Bush is a Psychopathic Killer. Ouch. It sounds like a joke, but when you see the evidence. Bush, as an example, is famous for tripping over words, but on closer examination he seems to do so only when he is masquarading as the "Compassionate Conservative." But when he speaks of revenge or putting people to death, watch out! the words slide smooth as a knife. Another example. Bush's script called for him to say, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." But what came out was, "Fool me once, shame . . . shame . . on you. Fool me twice . . . can't be fooled again!" What this tells about Bush? He cannot bring himself to say, Shame on Me. The idea is totally foreign to the psychopathic personality. Mark Crispin Miller, just one of this book's contributors, is a professor of media studies at New York University, where he also directs the Project on Media Ownership. Well after his essay I had to buy the book. The intro says don't take yourself too seriously. So smile as you buy this book in bulk, hand it out to friends and make sure they register and vote just like the world depended on it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading., July 23, 2004

This book is an excellent collection of facts and reasons as to why George W. Bush should be removed from office...IMMEDIATELY! From reading "My pet Goat" while the WTC was under attack to cutting pay & benefits for our troops while he beckons the enemy to 'bring it on' and kill them. As Margaret Cho states on the book jacket, we are country of the alarmingly stupid and the just plain alarmed. Arm yourself with the facts and vote this clown out on November 2nd.

1.0 out of 5 stars what about the issues, October 11, 2004
americans need to look at each canidates history.....just because one runs for democratic or republican president does not mean he has the ability.........more americans should be independents and select presidents for their history not their party...........this is just another attack a party book.
