About the Actor
Maray Ayres is an attractive and talented lady, who in show business language, successfully wears two hats. She is a frequent guest star on the big and small screens, and still finds time to be a full-time animal activist and obedience dog trainer.

"Maray's KISS Method " Obedience Dog Training and Safety Drills video combines discipline with love and is so amazingly successful that many celebrities have engaged her services to train their pets.

Born in San Francisco, Maray was raised on a small farm in Santa Cruz County where she grew up learning to love animals. Following her high school graduation, she studied acting, singing and dancing before going to Los Angeles to pursue her ambitions for a film career. Maray has been seen on ABC-TV's "General Hospital," and in a co-starring role with Melissa Gilbert in the NBC-TV Movie of the week, "Without Her Consent." Maray has also appeared in the motion picture "Mom", starring Stella Stevens and Mary McDonough from the hit series, "The Waltons" as well as NBC-TV's "Jack Reed, An Honest Cop" starring Brian Dennehy and the hit sit-com "Married with Children."

She initially launched her second career when prompted by friends to pursue this new endeavor after observing how well trained her own pets were, Yogi Bear and Elizabeth. Maray has appeared on numerous radio and television talk shows, including The George Putnam Show, L.A. In The Morning with Stephanie Edwards, and her own show, "Maray's Dog Talk," discussing more than 300 dogs she has professionally trained. Among the pets she has put through their paces are those owned by such celebrities as Mrs. Bob Hope, Bruce Springsteen, Erik Estrada, Robert Downey Jr., Katey Segal, Richard Dreyfuss, plus dogs belonging to people in many other walks of life.

Maray states, "I never met a dog I didn't like, but sometime I find it a bit difficult to appreciate their untrained masters."

Product Description
Our VHS video is 67 minutes long and consists of teaching the five basic commands: sit, stay, come, down, and heel as well as a number of safety drills and the advanced recall. We start with an introduction by Mr. Art Linkletter, and then on to Mr. Blackwells dogs. Maray uses many different breeds in the video and her main intent is to teach the dog owners how to train their own dogs at home. She uses humor, discipline, and much love for the animals in order to gain their respect. Her genuine love for each dog is displayed in her actions and it is quite prevalent throughout the tape. Maray has appeared on many cable TV shows as well as Los Angeles in the Morning with Stephanie Edwards.

This production has won two important awards for its instructional incisiveness and simplicity. These awards were the Best Special Interest Video from the Houston Film Festival and The Award of Excellence, presented by the Film Advisory Board, the only instructional video to be so honored.

1.0 out of 5 stars Annoying, September 29, 2000
By "ro5" (Jamaica, NY USA) - See all my reviews
I have watched several dog training videos, and this one was
terrible.

As mentioned in a previous review, it was painfully
obvious that the dogs were already trained before the camera started
rolling. Dogs were sitting before the command was given, etc etc etc.
It would have been worthwhile if she was actually using untrained dogs
to demonstrate her techniques.

Also, she is very annoying to listen
to. She talks to the dogs in the squeaky childlike voice that
irritated me so much it took me several viewings to watch the entire
video.

She was also very obvious about name dropping. She didn't
just use any dogs, she made a point of saying "We are at Richard
Dreyfus' house and this is his dog...We are at Art Lincletter's house
and this is his dog".

Finally, she uses the classic negative
reinforcement technique (choke collar) method for training. I have
started using a positive reinforcement program with my dog that has
been very beneficial. (...)

All in all, I did not like this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked for me!, June 21, 2000
By A Customer
We have a very willful, active golden retriever puppy that we wanted to have obedience training without breaking her spirit. Maray's KISS Method was the perfect answer. The lessons were simple, effective and we immediately saw results. Ms. Ayres provided insight into how a dog learns and responds to human interaction, which has helped us immensely in dealing with our dog. It was also helpful to watch Maray work with dogs that had some previous training-it gave us an excellent model for our own lessons. We didn't buy the video as proof that Ms. Ayres could train dogs, but to learn how to work with our own dog. In addition, we loved the safety tips and drills included with the video. Not only do we feel better equipped to handle anything with our dog, but also we have learned how to do it without stressing out the dog or ourselves!

1.0 out of 5 stars how awfull, May 8, 2000
By A Customer
these (movie star/celebrities) dogs were obviously previously trained. As she was giving the 'sit' command, she would say it as the dog was already starting to sit on its own. she would do all trainings within a 6 foot radius. Even my 13 week old puppy will come to me when I am 4 feet away and have her on a leash yanking. It is when she is farther away that I want to be able to get her to come... In closing - this is the worst video for any 'special interest' I have ever seen. This film provided absolutely no usefull content as far as training a dog. It should have been named- 'common sense with dogs'.
