Editorial Reviews

Review

"...describes the fundaments and backgrounds of the new technologies that are needed for large-scale protein analysis. This first book about the field of proteomics eloquently describes the fundamentals of the enabling technologies and is the ideal starting point to enter this new field. The authors show us how far this new field has evolved and where it may take us." BioWorld

Product Description

Recent advances in two-dimensional electrophoresis, protein microanalysis and bioinformatics have made the large-scale, systematic analysis of proteins and their post-translational modifications from any tissue or organism possible. This approach has acquired the name "Proteome Research", and can be considered as the core of functional genomics. The results of proteome analysis show which genes are expressed, how the protein products are modified, and how they interact, making proteome research of fundamental importance for the biologist, clinician, and pharmaceutical industry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Concept Building book., April 1, 2002
I bought this book to understand the computer science side of molecular biology. This book gives good treatment of the basics though if you are a programmer and want to get involved straight away, this book will be of little help.

This book helped me understand some concepts, and pointed me to some of the tools and databases that are currently in use in the bioinformatics business.
