Product Description

This collectable group of 22 beautifully designed Tarot cards is available in a handsome boxed set in either German or English language. Each card is a careful reproduction of one of Giger's paintings, and is interpreted by philosopher-magician Akron in a booklet of instructions, included with the set. To Akron Tarot is like an inexhaustible mine of symbols, suited to manifest Giger's aesthetics of apocalypse in literary style. Akron resorts to the tradition of the Tarot in order to convey the messages of Baphomet - a medieval secret symbol -- which is of special significance in Giger's work.

H.R. Giger is a painter, Oscar-award winner and cult figure of an international artistic community, for which his aesthetics of the apocalypse represent inspiration and spiritual healing. His pictures are gripping, indeed sometimes shocking visions - they shake us from our unconsciousness as they relentlessly point to the hidden inner world of all things. The art of Giger is a journey to the most ancient destination of mankind: to birth and death, love and war, hope and the destruction of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, innovative approach, superlative art, November 25, 2000
By Chiron (....) - See all my reviews
H.R. Giger continually amazes, invoking a deranged specter of a shadow world that seems strangely paralell to our own murky unconscious.

In this Tarot set, Giger choses 22 of his previously published works to represent the major Arcana. Make no mistake- the result is a new perspective, highly stylized and altogether breathtaking in its appeal to the more nightmarish aspects of existance. With this set, accompanied by an insightful and oft-times surprisingly adroit analyses, it is of course a must have for anyone interested in great art and the symbolism of the tarot.

Whether your interest lies primarily in tarot sets or Giger's fantastical art, it will appeal to you regardless of the particular axiom to which you subscribe.

One last thing- the cards are foil stamped in silver and are truly magnificent for those individuals searching for something a little different- and may well spark some creativity in those who want to visit new realms of thought as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars major arcana by giger and akron, January 10, 2002
By A Customer
It should first be stated that this is not a complete tarot, nor
is it in any way suitable for beginners. It is for Giger collectors and cartomancers interested in a radical re-interpretation of the Tarot. What you get is a 22 card set of Giger's art selected by Akron to serve as Major Trumps, a poster-sized detail of a Giger painting which serves as a layout board and a book by Akron explaining his vision and interpretatation of the "Shadow Tarot," rejecting the usuall sweetness and light approach. Those who dare to gaze into the Abyss may start here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Tarot deck!, December 11, 2002
By A Customer
This Tarot is not for the faint of heart. This has the potential, if used honestly, to reveal some ugly truths about your unconscious motivations. The images are incredible, and well chosen for the cards. The cards themselves are huge (and need to be to do the images justice). They convey a fascinating darkness to the reader. The book is short and too the point, giving great background info. I would recomend this to serious, mature tarot readers and anyone who likes Giger's work. There is some nudity and disturbing imagery, so if that bothers you, look elsewhere.
