Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This book has 320 color photos. There is no other group of aquarium fishes which has evoked such a passion among hobbyists as Tanganyikan cichlids have. For many an aquarist they represent a life-long addiction to keeping, breeding and, most of all, observing these interesting fishes. Why is this? The answer is easy: Tanganyika cichlids are the most interesting aquarium fishes known today. They provide hobbyists with a combination of attractive fishes, interesting behaviour, and easy maintenance, with the added benefit that the sale of their offspring can sometimes cover most of the cost of keeping them.

This guide provides an overview of the species currently available and some basic information on how to keep them in the most natural way.

About the Author
Ad Konings (El Paso, Texas) has more than 24 years experience with Tanganyika cichlids. As author and co-author of more than 10 books on cichlids he specialises in underwater observation and photography of these fishes. He studied biology at the university of Amsterdam and did DNA cloning research at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. His many expeditions (more than 29) to Africa and Central America gained him a wealth of information on cichlids and their biotopes. He is currently publisher of cichlid-related books and videos (Cichlid Press).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good atlas of Tanganyika Cichlids, February 4, 2000
By Mauro Herrera (Madrid, Spain) - See all my reviews
Very good information about each fish (habitat, behavior, breeding, size, recommended aquarium...). There's little information in the first part of the book (general and lake information) but there are a lot of books with this kind of information and without specific information about each fish.

Very, very good photographs to obtain a correct identification.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic guide to Tanganikans!, January 26, 2000
By A Customer
Exhaustive guide to the cichlids of lake Tanganika. Includes hundreds of pictures including many color variations. Information on many of these fish can't be found anywhere else. Focuses mainly on the individual fish, but does give some info on the technicalities of keeping them as well. Highly recommended!
