Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia is a crucial site for detecting long-term global changes, owing to its high sensitivity to climatic oscillation and its extraordinarily long history. Because lacustrine sediments have an advantage in providing high-resolution information, the sediments in Lake Baikal contain excellent continuous records of past conditions including paleoclimates, evolution, and specification of organisms.
