Not just her fabulous voice doing your favorite Broadway tunes "the way they were written to be sung." Now Barbra takes us behind the scenes and makes you feel apart of the whole delicate difficult wonderful 'putting-yourself-out-there' process of Putting It Together! YOU GO GIRL!

Barbra so rarely does TV specials that we all ate this up and asked for seconds. However, it's basically a cut-and-paste job. Take some documentary footage of Barbra recording in the studio, paste in a terrible interview (did Babs write those questions herself??), and the SOMEWHERE music video, and call it a TV Special!

I love Barbra and will forgive her anything, but because of the sloppiness, the best part of this special is the recording studio footage. We get to hear a fabulous brassy version of "Can't Help Lovin That Man of Mine" that Streisand didn't use. We get to see her patter her way through "Putting it Together". We see Barbra impatiently direct the orchestra during "If I Loved You".

THE BROADWAY ALBUM was Barbra's crowning return to recording the songs we love to hear her sing. This video is very interesting. Thanks Barbra! But next time, more studio footage and less interview!

Overall, this is a good document of the making of a landmark and popular album. Barbra is in fine voice, and it's fun to watch her work. My only criticism is the belabored and overly rehearsed "conversation" between Barbra and William Friedkin. The whole talk seems scripted and insincere. It taints an otherwise interesting video. But, alas, we have Barbra at a high point in her career singing some of the best material, so the video is still worthwhile.
