4.0 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE'S ORIGINAL TITLE IS "BELLS", October 12, 2004
By Carter Gorman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) - See all my reviews

I've watched my video copy of this movie twice. Enjoyed it both times. Plot may be kind of crazy, but so what? It's still a fun movie. The plot has been described successfully by another reviewer, so I'll not waste time describing it again.

Main reason I'm writing this "review". Here in the United States, this movie is known as MURDER BY PHONE. It was released on Warner Home Video. It runs 80 mins. I have a copy of it. BUT, THIS MOVIE WAS A CANADIAN-MADE FEATURE AND THE ORIGINAL RUNNING TIME WAS 95 MINS. IT WAS EDITED BY 15 MINS. FOR ITS AMERICAN RELEASE. HOW DO I KNOW THIS, YOU MAY ASK? WELL, SINCE YOU'VE GOT THIS FAR I WILL GLADLY EXPLAIN. I ALSO HAVE A VIDEO COPY ON THE ASTRAL VIDEO LABEL FROM CANADA. RELEASED IN 1983. RUNNING TIME IS 95 MINS AS STATED ON BACK OF THE BOX. TITLE ON FRONT OF BOX IS "BELLS". WE AMERICANS WHO LIKE THIS MOVIE HAVE BEEN CHEATED OUT OF 15 MINUTES THAT ARE IN THE CANADIAN PRINT! UGH!
The Astral Video of this movie from Canada has been out-of-print for a LONG time. I stumbled upon this un-edited version by accident. Now I wouldn't sell it for a king's ransom. It seems that hardly anyone else who likes this movie even knows an original print of BELLS was put on video. WELL I'M HERE TO TELL YOU IT WAS. AND IS. BECAUSE I STILL HAVE IT AND THE TAPE PLAYS GREAT.

2.0 out of 5 stars Muder By Phone, July 4, 2000
By Melissa Fabello (S. Berwick, ME USA) - See all my reviews
Alright...'Murder By Phone'. It was an okay movie. I definitely think it could've been a lot better. It's one of those cheesy 80s horror flicks. I found it more funny than scary, though I admit, I'm gonna be scared to answer the phone for a while! This movie is pretty much about a crazed murderer dude who kills his victims by calling them + then playing a high frequency sound which makes them have like convulsions + then he sends high voltage through the phone + they die. This movie is also a little confusing at times. (Keep in mind, I saw the movie at like midnight) This is DEFINITELY a REALLY good movie to watch with a bunch of your friends during a sleepover in the middle of the night!

1.0 out of 5 stars yawn., August 3, 2001
This movie was just plain dull so don't bother. I am a Richard Chamberlain fan and after seeing Shogun and The Thorn Birds this movie is just a waste of his talent and my time.
