TOO BAD ZERO Stars is not an option!, March 31, 2003
I bought this tape just so I could see Fats at the table. He claimed to be have beaten every great player in the world - including Mosconi and Greenleaf. All lies. Mosconi ripped him for $600 in one-pocket years before he started spanking him up on that TV "comedy" show where Fats would beat terrible players and entertain the crowd at the same time.Of course, even as Mosconi was putting a good thrashing on him (in 8ball, 9ball, straight pool, and 1-pocket) Fats continued to entertain the audience with jokes. He was a good comedian that played a slightly better than average game of pool. For those of you who know nothing about pool/billiard history I'll let you in on this: Minnesota Fats was a FICTIONAL character from Walter Tevis, author of "The Hustler". Rudolph Wonderone, aka NEW YORK FATS, was a story telling hustler that had to keep his mouth running all the time at the table because his game wasn't good enough on it's own to be considered as a serious pool hustler. The biggest story he ever told is when he claimed that "Minnesota Fats", from the movie The Hustler, was based on HIM! So, not long after the movie hit the big time NY Fats took the name "Minnesota Fats" - no doubt as a publicity stunt. Anyway, this video is not educational. Buy a good book like Phil Capelle's "Play Your Best Pool" if you are interested in learning how to play good pool. BC
