5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the greatest cartoons from Tex Avery's MGM days., February 21, 1999
By A Customer
This video contains seven cartoons:

Droopy foils the Wolf's attempted prison break in DUMB-HOUNDED (1943). Droopy inherits a fortune which will revert to Spike in the event of Droopy's death in WAGS TO RICHES (1949). The supreme THE SHOOTING OF DAN McGOO (1945) finds Droopy and the horny Wolf in a saloon in Coldernell, Alaska fighting over the lady known as Lou. In DROOPY'S GOOD DEED (1951), Droopy and Spike are at it again in a Scout competition. Then comes Droopy's greatest Western: DRAG-A-LONG DROOPY (1954) wherein Droopy is a sheepherder fighting a Texas Range War against the cattleman Wolf. In CHUMP CHAMP (1950), Droopy and Spike compete in Olympic sports; Droopy wins through innocence. And finally, in DEPUTY DROOPY (1955), two desperadoes have to avoid waking up the sheriff while trying to open a safe. This one has to be seen to be believed. For example, to avoid screaming, one desperadoe pops his head off, hands it to his partner who runs off to the far hills with it where the head finally emits a painful wail. This is one tall Texas-style tale. And one great video.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cartoons, but censored, March 16, 1999
By A Customer
This video contains some of my all time personal favorite cartoons, most of which you just can't see on television anymore. However, much like the cartoons on television the ones on this video have also been censored (although to a lesser degree). For example, in "Droopy's Good Deed" there is one gag that ends abruptly at the very moment the dynamite blows up in Spike's face. I found this dissapointing because I expected a commercial release of this material to be in its original form instead of hacked up by PC censors. All in all its a great video however and I would highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Censored, December 30, 2005
By Wilkesboro Will (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
Like most other classic cartoon collections, this video contains some edited material. Admittedly it isn't as severely cut as some other collections I've seen. At least one gag in "Droopy's Good Deed" is cut short due to content. This censorship is very typical for classic cartoon releases, including the recent Tom & Jerry sets which were butchered by Ted Turner. I guess he and Hanoi Jane will always know what is best for the general public. What I find most surprising is that characters like "Chef" in the popular South Park cartoons portray offensive racial humor in ways that Tex Avery probably never imagined in his wildest dreams. The p.c. crowd will climb mountains to jump to the defense of material like South Park or rap albums about killing cops. But when it comes to mammy two shoes or explosions that cause a character to have black faces and big lips.... well, they don't talk about that...its better to be ignored and forgotten. I advocate not buying any classic cartoon set until the studios actually provide the public with original, unedited material. Let us judge for ourselves what we can and cannot see. Don't expect it to happen anytime soon though.
