4.0 out of 5 stars Wings of Obsession, June 12, 2000
By Flickhead "former film critic for KLSX" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This debut feature from director Juanma Bajo Ulloa, a dark tale of obsession, set the tone for his future films Dead Mother, and Open Your Eyes. It concerns the relationship between a girl and her mother after the latter's obsessive need to grant her husband a male heir. The situations that develop from what would hardly be considered a plot point in the hands of a lesser director lead to the tense brow-beating conclusion of one of Spain's most offbeat art films. Butterfly Wings explores the dynamics that arise within the different relationships the characters have with each other, nary an angle unexamined. Rich in character development as well as eye candy, it remains both unsettling and richly satisfying.

I simply love this movie, I like everything about it, great story, great performances, excellent music. If somebody asks me about my favourite films, this one is the first on my mind.
