I have been searching for this show for years!! Anyone who was born in the 1960's and watched syndicated television should remember the movie version of the Johnny Sokko series, entitled, "Voyage Into Space". The Movie was actually an edited compilation of the television series. Some consider it a live action version of the cartoon,"Gigantor".

I watched the actual series when it was rerun back in the early 1980's. Obviously, the movie version has a much faster pace since after only two hours you get to the dramatic and emotional finale when the Giant Robot sa... Oops, sorry folks, I can't give the series finale away.

Suffice it to say that with the exception of the original "Godzilla" film, 1960's Japanese Sci-Fi simply does not get much better than "Johnny Sokko", cheesy special effects and all!

I believe there are only 22 or 24 episodes of the T.V. series. Don't wait for the movie version, order the series today! Once you get to the big finish, you'll understand why Baby Boomers and early Gen X-ers, like me, are so excited to see "Johnny Sokko.." finally available on VHS. Bring on the DVD. I'm waiting, credit card in hand, ready to place my order.

For the price it's a great Giant Robot show. Very similar to Ultraman or the Godzilla films with a bit of extra cheese. The Egyptian robot shooting rockets from his fingers is just so cool looking. It's worth getting for fun on VHS but I can't wait to add the DVDs. Don't pay too much for the VHS...the quality seem poor now that I rewatch them. The main reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

I remember as a boy, images of a flying robot with an egyptian head. Now I realize they just weren't dreams but actual series! It's been great to have been able to relive those feelings and emotions and know that I wasn't crazy about images of a flying egyptian robot in my head!
