5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious and amazing!, November 20, 1999
By A Customer
first, I'll admit that I liked this film so much I searched out the subtitled version after seeing the dubbed version (not hard to find). Wow, the subtitled version is SO MUCH BETTER. The dubbed version is a full 15 min shorter--omitting footage from both the lion dance and the final fight--2 of the best scenes in the movie. The dubbed version of the final fight really makes no sense because the dialogue is mistranslated and crucial events are editted out (eg-Jackie drinking the opium pipe water). This holds true for the dubbed film as a whole--you get the gist of the storyline, but the lines are mistranslated. The incidental music is also different. But even the dubbed version is funny, and the fight scenes are awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clowning and Kung fu amongst truly amazing stunts: a classic, June 29, 1999
By A Customer
This film had me gurgling with delight from begining to end. Not only are there awesome choreographed sequences & some of the most beautiful props and costumes, but along with the Master of Kung Fu we see Chan impressive & delightful as a Master of clown.Beautiful locations, beguiling maidens with skirt fighting techniques to humble any flamenco dancer and a musical score that is in itself hugely entertaining (I particularly cackled at the choice of 'Mars' from Holst's Planets for the seminal fight sequence in which Jackie Chan emerges as the true "Young Master"). Do not miss this finely crafted & mischeviously entertaining movie- my absolute favourite Jackie Chan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Old Jackie!, October 29, 2000
By Erik James (Orono, Me USA) - See all my reviews
By far one of his greatest films i have seen. Not far behind Snake in the Eagles shadow. The action in this one is top notch, and some good humor as well, but not corny like many of his new movies. I could watch these types of movies all day. It's got it all, including a long, amazing final battle with some of the most impressive styles you'll see. A must have for any jackie chan fan, or i should say any martial arts fan.
