5.0 out of 5 stars Great box set from the best season (#3) of the X Files, October 18, 1999
By A Customer
This "wave" (5), along with 6, are the video representatives of the third season of the X Files. Since the X Files have set a standard of excellence that will most likely NEVER by equalled in television again, discussion of the merits of this or that particular episode/season should be qualified; in other words, even the BAD episodes (there aren't many) have something of interest in them. That being said, I feel that season three is the best overall season to date; although only 12 episodes have been chosen (as with the other seasons), they easily could have rounded up another 8 of similiar quality ( e.g. OUBLIETTE, GROTESQUE, SYZYGY,THE LIST,etc). The mythology 2-parters from the 3rd season are the absolute best to date. Newcomers to the X Files will be blown away by the production values these shows exhibit. Also included are writer Darrin Morgan's masterpieces, self-mocking,quirky and strangely moving. I can't recommend these episodes highly enough; it's a very rare phenomenon indeed when high art is extremely popular. The X Files IS such a phenomenon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this review, December 20, 1999
Do you want to know how you're going to die? "Yes, I do..." No, you don't. The X-Files never reached greater heights of episode quality than on October 3, 1995, when it aired "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose". Bruckman (played by the incomparable Peter Boyle) is a middle-aged balding bachelor who recognizes life for the meaningless, empty game it is...and never has a television character carried such wisdom in every word, every gesture, every glance... This episode alone should warrant buying the video set (the others are of high quality as well, especially "War of the Coprophages", though I doubt the other episodes will appeal much to people who haven't followed the complicated mythology of the series). As another X-Files character once said, "Everything dies" - more than enough reason why the first episode in this set is a must--have.

5.0 out of 5 stars The wave which originally got me hooked to the X-Files..., May 2, 1999
My sister was home from college for a few weeks, and she had to see the X-Files when it came on Fridays (think it was still on Fridays back then at least). Well, we watched the 2 parter (Nisei & 731) and I continued to watch it but not as consistently as now. The Blessing Way was also a great season premiere, Paper Clip was well written, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose is one of my favorites, and War of the Coprophages is a quite interesting episode (kinda makes me sick in my stomach, lol). Great wave! Not as good as 6 or 7 but very close!
