This was an all-Missouri feud, the I-70 Series, Kansas City versus St. Louis. The 1985 World Series matched two ball clubs with similar strengths: speed and pitching. Whitey Herzog's Cardinals were led by rookie Vince Coleman's 110 stolen bases and veteran John Tudor's 21 wins. Dick Howser's Royals were paced by George Brett, Dan Quisenberry, and 21-year-old Bret Saberhagen. The series was highlighted by stellar pictching: Bret Saberhagen (2-0, 0.50 ERA), John Tudor (Game 4 - Shutout) and Danny Jackson (Game 5: 5-hit victory). This video captures the Royal's amazing comeback, including the wild conclusion of Game 6 when a controversial umpiring call helped fuel a two-run, ninth inning rally. Game 7 was a lopsided 11-0 Royals victory. For Kansas City, its first world championship; and for baseball, another exciting seven-game Series.
