Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Equally important to our understanding of history and humanity are the great works of literature. The Nobel Prize for Literature recognizes modern classics and the efforts of authors to bridge gaps between different cultures, time-periods and styles; the prizewinners between 1981 and 1990 are from four continents. These volumes are collections of the Nobel lectures delivered by the prizewinners, together with their biographies, portraits and presentation speeches for the period 1981 - 1990. Each Nobel lecture is based on the work that won the laureate his prize. New biographical data on the laureates, since they were awarded the Nobel prize, is also included.

4.0 out of 5 stars A statement to the world , November 21, 2006
This volume contains the Nobel Lectures given by the laureates in Literature from the years 1982-90.It also includes the presentation speeches, a biographical sketch and a photo of each laureate. Those included in the volume are Canetti, Marquez, William Golding, Jaroslav Seifert, Claude Simon, Wole Soyinka, Joseph Brodsky, Nagibh Mafouz, Camilo Jose Cela, Octavio Paz.
Of all the writers here I feel it is Brodsky who most speaks to the love of Literature and Love of human freedom- values the Prize honors.
