Editorial Reviews

Review

"It is an excellent review for the ophthalmologist studying for the board examinations. It is well organized, simple and direct." -- Archives of Ophthalmology, Apr 2002

Addressed primarily to those who take British style examinatiions but could be used by countries where exams are slightly different. -- British Journal of Ophthalmology

both intentionally didactic and repetitive and focuses on most commonly addressed examination subjects -- American Journal of Ophthalmology, Mar 2004

ideally suited for any candidate taking basic qualifying tests in ophthalmology -- The Surgeon, Dec 2003 --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Product Description

This book is targetted at the final year ophthalmology resident taking the specialist ophthalmology exams, and deals primarily with key topics that are important from the examination viewpoint. Only material that is considered relevant to the exams is covered. The book should help the trainee or resident organize and synthesize knowledge acquired from various other sources or textbooks. While not meant to replace the standard textbooks, it contains enough information to serve as the main revision text nearer the exams. The style of the book is didactic, with questions and short answers. The short answers are designed to be repetitive so as to enhance memory. The answer includes a "model opening statement", followed usually by a classification system to aid organization of facts and then by the bulk of the answer in concise notes. "Exam Tips" are inserted to provide insight into how to answer difficult types of questions and, when appropriate, a "Clinical Approach" section is also included. Scattered within the text are hundreds of mnemonics to help the candidate in the final stages of preparation for the exams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent review book, April 29, 2004
By Rehman Siddiqui (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Excellent review book for exams in UK; both MRCOphth and MRCS. Very well written, up-to-date (with all major studies) and concise. NOT to be used as first or only book. Should be read, initially, along with a major text, say, Kanski and should be read well before exam. 'Exam Tips' and 'Clinical Approach....' sections are extremely useful. I have recommended this book to half a dozen of my friends and they all loved it. No section on conjunctiva though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not fun to read, October 5, 2007
Although this is a last minute review before boards it is difficult to read through due to a lot of information and small print. The question answer format may be perhaps more relevant for oral boards but for the written boards it does not make for an easy review. Absence of pictures or schematics also makes this less readable.
