Product Description
Our 78 page book presents information on controlling fleas using techniques that do not require insecticides, as well as descriptions of insecticidal products and their proper use to maximize effectiveness and minimize contact. Our book makes it clear when to use a particular type of product and why.
Our book describes in detail: techniques, materials, and chemicals that enable pet owners to really control fleas on and around their pets. To write the book, we performed much of our own research into flea characteristics, and offer an unbiased evaluation for the vast array of flea products available.
The truth is - flea control does not have to be as complicated as many pet owners believe. Unfortunately, the pet product industry has thoroughly confused consumers with the vast array of products available for flea control. In addition, many insecticidal products have only marginal effectiveness as a real flea control technique because of the practical problems of actually contacting a flea with the active ingredients (regardless of how potent or toxic those active ingredients may be).
Heres one example of the kind of information found in our book - Did you know that water kills an immature stage of the flea? That by merely watering the shaded areas outside your home once a week where your pet routinely rests, you can kill most, if not all, of the next generation of fleas that are developing?? This is just one of the techniques that the pet industry will never tell you. They want to sell you insecticides over and over and over again.
Our book provides very specific recommendations that are clear, to the point and simple to implement. In addition, we add a supplemental information sheet with each book containing up-to-date information on new flea control products that have become available after printing the current edition.
About the Author
When I complained to our veterinarian, he told me to de-claw our pets and keep them indoors all the time. Since I was not enthusiastic about keeping the kittens-soon-to-be-cats indoors all the time, I went to our neighborhood pet store to find out what flea control products were available. Wow, talk about being overwhelmed! There were rows upon rows of cans and bottles filled with a wide variety of chemicals that promised to kill fleas.
Well, after trying many products, nothing seemed to work satisfactorily, and no one could really explain to me why (although everyone I met who sold flea control products had another product to try). These products contained a variety of chemicals to kill fleas on our pets, on our furniture, on our rugs, and outside our home. Everything we tried, however, provided only temporary relief from the seemingly endless battalions of fleas that continued to invade our lives.
So in quiet desperation I began conducting my own investigation into what flea control methods and materials actually work. I contacted veterinarian and entomology departments at universities for research papers, and I built a flea habitat to test products for myself. Yes, you might say I became rather obsessed.
As I soon discovered, there are indeed many flea control methods, materials, and techniques that kill fleas. However, I also found out nothing works completely by itself, and several popular flea control methods dont seem to work at all.
The culmination of my burning desire to rid my life of fleas was to write this book on the subject. I have condensed a tremendous amount of information gleaned from some of the top authorities in the country (Yes, believe it or not, there are actual flea authorities) as well as my own research. Simply put, my intent in writing this book is to document every conceivable flea control method, material, and technique that actually works.
Let me start off by saying there are some very effective techniques for flea control that do not require the use of insecticides. However, the proper use of certain insecticides can make aspects of flea control much easier. By and large controlling fleas without using insecticides requires a higher level of diligence and consistency than if you use insecticides. As such, Ive designed my book so you have the information necessary to decide which techniques and materials are best for you and your particular situation.
