Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Led and produced by indie folk musician Alice Di Micele, whose stunningly emotive voice booms like a rolling river through five glorious octaves, Circle of Women is a largely public-domain collection of sacred women's songs. Beware, thou Sister Irony, this is an earnest bunch who aspire to crone-dom from their Birkenstocked tootsies to their feral grins and untouched grays. Circle is indeed granola earth-girl crunchy--a little witchy-poo cast-a-circle in honor of the great goddess. But, sister-girlfriend, it's some groovulous good stuff in which six vastly differing voices lift to the heavens as spirits follow. And while the mostly recognizable a cappella tunes are certainly lovely, it is the sharing that is most beautiful. These are simple rounds, chants, and melodies intended for intergenerational gatherings, groups, and gaggles of Ya-Ya Sisters, whether it be round a fire, at a protest, in a fast-driving car, or on a porch watching the sky crack with lightning. Sing it loud, sing it proud. Feels good, huh? --Paige La Grone

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting in Touch, May 30, 2001
By Chrysalis (Oakley, ca .United States) - See all my reviews
When I first heard this CD, I had to have a copy. Lucky for me one was available! This music touches my very soul..it reinforces what I now know I am and have been most of my life...Pagan, albeit Solitary. I do hope this album is re-released and available soon, so my daughter and others, who are searching the path along which they know they must travel, can experience the haunting melodies, the all engulfing musical nuances and the totally absorbing feeling that one is not alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving, Spiritual, Beautiful, July 5, 2000
If you are looking for a compilation of new and older chants, rounds and songs sung with beautiful harmonies...this is one of the best! The voices are outstanding, the production quality (which is sometimes lacking on these types of CDs) is terrific. Even with headphones; crisp, clear, no background hisses or noises. The songs are tributes to Mother Earth and Goddess and Women. Minimal music and instruments...the voices are the focal point. Wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars an absolute must in honor of the Goddess!, October 25, 1999
By "2fast4u" (Lumberton, NC) - See all my reviews
This CD has been such an inspiration for my love of the Goddess/Mother Earth. I use it in ritual and it is a constant strengthening tool for me during every day use. . ."Woman am I, spirit am I. . .I am the infinite within my soul. . ." I find myself humming these chants at work! Thank you "Circle of Women"!!!!!!
