Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Vinyl LP pressing. Originally released in 1991, the Shit Split reached many a Punk rocker, inspiring a legion of kids to act up! This classic is back via Alternative Tentacles. Blatz and Filth exploded out of the East Bay scene at 924 Gilman Street, home to Operation Ivy, Green Day, Crimpshrine, Rancid, Jawbreaker, and hundreds more. Blatz (past & future members of The Gr'ups, The Criminals, Dead and Gone, and Subincision) took a raucous, slightly more melodic sound mashed with hair-raising & razor-gargling vocals over super Punk guitars. --This text refers to the Vinyl edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars a classic split, February 9, 2002
By chris lea (boerne, tx) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Shit Split (Audio CD)
this is the best split i think i've ever heard. filth were a great band falling somewhere in between crust core and street punk while blatz were just amazing...scrappy, disjointed punk rock with geeky male vocals and 2 screeching chicks singers. this double cd contains the original split lp, and even better the rest of each band's discographies! the booklet is also constructed really well. this is an essential portrait of the late 80s east bay scene, especially for those who thought all that time period produced were green day and operation ivy. as jesse lucious said, it was a good idea to rerelease this on the evil compact disc format to expose those trendy green day punx to the ugly realities of punk and maybe even corrupt them. i feel they succeeded!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute great CD., February 7, 2000
By Bob Wilson (California) - See all my reviews
Ok,this Cd is absolutely great, and a must have for any punk out there. It isn't the usualy run-of-the-mill Exploited Dk Misfits type of bands. Filth is great and one of the best bands ever. The Blatz in my opinion is the greatest band ever. Anna Joy is absolutely wonderful and her voice will stick with you. I suggest if you can get your hands on it and have a record player getting the gr'ups and Cyper in Snow (anna joy from the Blatz other bands). I have had the Cd for over 6 months and the LP for a year I prefer the record because you can go straight to the song "Chuck" without going through "lullabye" again. Filth's song "Todays Lesson" Is absolutelly one of the greatest punk songs ever. Even though I am from the Bay Area I was unfortunatelly to young to experience this part of the scene, there is no more punk like this anymore but when I hear it, it is kind of a history lesson of what punk was 10 years ago, and the influence on what it is now. So to everyone who is even considering buying this CD, it is worth it and money well spent. E-mail me to tell me what you think.

5.0 out of 5 stars i can't believe this album is out of print, September 22, 2005
By . "germ" (california) - See all my reviews
the fact that this c.d. is out of print is a downright tragedy, i own it on c.d. and vinyl. i keep the c.d. in my car and the record at home to make sure i am never without this album. filth is so f*ckin raw it's ridiculous their side of the split is old school punk with raw hardcore vocals, this is the best delivery of that style of vocals ever. the blatz side is equally impressive there are three vocalists jesse lucious who later formed the criminals, and the frisk is the only bring down of the album but the female vocalists on this album are crazy, one of them kind of sounds like eve libertine from crass, and the other has a voice that sounds so obnoxious that it makes poly styrene from x-ray specs vocals sound like whitney houston, she is the most shameless and entertaining vocalist ever, and there lyrics are pretty funny too. if you find this album for cheaper than 40 bucks i highly recomend it, but paying that much for a c.d. is ridiculous, even though it is a double c.d. and both c.d.s are over 70 minutes.
