5.0 out of 5 stars Death metal with the qaulity of Bach, October 27, 1998
By A Customer
Who ever thinks that death metal is written by morons with no talent is mostly correct. This album by Obituary is actually intelligently composed and artfully executed (no pun intended). It shows a level of artistry that is way beyond the strereotypical death metal album. Even though it of a qaulity that would please any music critic, it does not mean it is a light or commercial recording. The rythems are absoloutely bone crushing, and the drum work is mind blowing. The album is flavored with sound effects that give me nightmares, and the vocalist is pure evil. This album is not for the faint of heart! Totally awesome even after listening to it for 8 years now, this classic will survive for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A monument of death metal, June 20, 1998
By A Customer
In a world of trendy corporate sellouts and faceless nobody copycat death bands, one band that refuses to change is Obituary. This album, their second, is packed full of the usual heavy guitars and utterly inhuman vocals that define the Obituary sound. Joining them on lead guitar this album is master shredder James Murphy. His soloing is phenomenal! The songs are crafted with such an eerie feel, you get goose bumps from beginning to end (the front cover is just as eerie), and John Tardy's lacerating vocals leave you breathless by the album's end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice!!!, October 20, 2004
By Aaron D. Hueber (Rome, New York United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Obituary are certainly members of a rare breed. 'Cause of Death' is one of the finest releases from any Death Metal outfit since the 1980's. Considering the album as a whole, it blisters from start to finish, relentlessly leaving its listener in the midst of an uncontrollable head nod. The vocals are rough and gnarly, spanning from a low growl to a medial shriek, remaining decipherable throughout. Even with your first experience you'll feel its trembling groove. Minutes pass, at times, where no vocals are present. As the band grooves, they seem aware that the listener is pleading for the track not to end, but ultimatley it does, only to lead into another [revelry] of the senses. Get this.
