4.0 out of 5 stars 1984 is Solid, August 13, 2001
Rock On's 1984 collection has some classics, but their are a couple of missteps along the way. Former Babys lead singer John Waite hit number one with his rock ballad "Missing You" while r&b chanteuse Chaka Khan hit number three with "I Feel For You" which is a cover of an old Prince song and has guests Stevie Wonder on harmonica and Grandmaster Melle Mel providing one of the first raps to hit the top ten. The Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now" is an 80's classic, but Corey Hart's "Sunglasses At Night" is forgettable. Pat Benatar showed off a softer side with the pretty "We Belong" and The Cars roll out the supremely catchy "Magic". Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You" is a smooth top ten hit and Billy Squier's "Rock Me Tonite" has a memorable keyboard riff and a kinetic energy. Ashford & Simpson wrote some all time classics like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" but "Solid" is not one of them. Sheena Easton's "Strut" is a horrible song and "Miss Me Blind" is not the Culture Club's finest. "Breakdance" by Irene Cara tried to capitalize on the that craze and all though it's a decent song it has been forgotten as quickly as the fad that inspired it.

4.0 out of 5 stars One more MUST TO HAVE, March 5, 2001
By A Customer
This is one more of the ROCK ON collection that an 80's collector must to add to your favorites. You'll listen some difficult songs to find in other collections like STRUT from Shena Easton, that is also one of my favorites!. If you like the 80's music, you'll enjoy it!
