Editorial Reviews

From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD
Ecclesiastical confusion aside, Sterling 'Satan" Magee and Adam Gussow are the Harlem curbside duo who spin the listener in the vortex of a most idiosyncratic and restive brand of down-home blues. Satan's pitchfork-in-the-ribs singing and simultaneous ravaging of electric guitar and percussion seemingly come direct from the fires of primeval creation. Harmonica player Adam leaves any sense of white middle-class decorum twenty blocks to the south. Fortunately the recording studio doesn't bridle the pair's raw enthusiasm any. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

5.0 out of 5 stars I got the Harlem blues to-day, February 4, 2008
It's a shame that one person's bad experience with Amazon has to ruin the the rating of this gem. The hype is true--this is street blues at its finest. Turn on, tune in, and drop out right in the middle of Harlem. Ain't no better high for a blues-head.

This is a fantastic album! They work together beautifully.

This CD is a must for any aspiring harp player - Adam puts on a clinic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harlem on the Bayou, November 29, 1999
I get the feeling that these guys are still giving free concerts somewhere deep in NYC. This is an incredible, raw sound coming from Mr. Satan (a one man band in his own right) and Adam on harmonica. This is a must for any hard core blues junkie. Hey Adam,no offense, but leave the vocals to your partner or learn to growl!
