4.0 out of 5 stars Warrior Soul - 'Salutations From The Ghetto Nation' (Geffen), December 1, 2004
This was the band's third effort.'Salutations...',I think sounds more rounded out as well as a bit more upbeat than their first two CD's,although they were good too.I've liked every disc put out by this group. The social issues and political [...] is very much still intact. As for the tracks that more than makes this a choice title to keep in your music collection are the title cut "Ghetto Nation","Love Destruction",the [...] "Blown" and "Trip Rider". Overall, just a good heavy rock catalog release.Only regret I have is I never got to see vocalist Kory Clarke and crew play live.Worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars JUST AS POTENT IN 2008 AS IN 1992, December 3, 2008
IF YOU DON'T OWN THIS CLASSIC YOU ARE DEFINITELY MISSING OUT. HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS CD CAME OUT IN 1992 BECAUSE IT IS STILL SO FRESH SOUNDING WARRIOR SOUL SHOULD OF BEEN HUGE. THIS CD IS A CLASSIC IN ALL RESPECTS. EVERY TRACK KICKS 'LOVE DESTRUCTION' DEFINITELY ONE TO CRANK UP, SHINE LIKE IT, 'PUNK AND BELLIGERENT' ANOTHER CRANKER, 'GHETTO NATION' ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVES. EVERY TRACK IS SPOT ON WITH SOME EXCELLENT MUSICIANSHIP, JOHN RICCO HAS SOME KILLER RIFFS ALL OVER THIS CD, KORY CLARKE WROTE SOME KILLER LYRICS THAT ARE STILL JUST AS POWERFUL SOME 16 YEARS LATER. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PICK UP THIS CD. YOU WILL DEFINITELY PUT IT IN HEAVY ROTATION (I BOUGHT IT IN '92 AND STILL LISTEN TO IT ALOT) I GUARANTEE IT ~ SALUTATIONS....

3.0 out of 5 stars Pushes towards the four star mark, July 18, 2006
Warrior Soul, vehicle of Kory Clarke who would hold an (unloaded)gun to his head at times during live gigs and who gave good quote to music journalists, were on the verge of a breakthrough with this and their other releases. But never quite got there.

The tracks here are almost uniform in their anti government stance. Govt in general but especially the US Republican Party. Of couse when you present then imminent downfall of society which WS seem to be doing here, then your really up against it - after all panic merchants have been on about the end of society since the year dot!

WS on this album use a variety of ways of getting their point cross. From outright rockers like Love Destruction to the slowburn of Dimension the band are able to nag away at the listener, drawing them into a hypnotic swirl of guitar riffery.

Gripes would be partly gut feeling regarding the band and musical. Firstly the way Clarke was portrayed as some some of intellectual with the utmost integrity. This is the guy who faxed a heap of copies of the front page of an article to his record company. The headline in question was 'the year punk broke'. And why was Clarke doing this - well the poor dear had tried to get his record company to sign his post WS project which was a punk band and Clarke had figured that punk was going to be the next big thing. And by the record company not going for it he'd missed the gravy train that was pop punk in the 90's. Integrity my backside...

Musically the gripes would be that the album is a bit of a downer with it's constant whining and portrayal of doom and gloom. Having said that the album is musically cleverly constructed with direct and simple delivery of high brow and politically charged lyrics. Truth be told though Clarkes vocals aren't all that engaging or expressive so it does tend to stand or fall on how engaged you are by his anti govt rant.

Huge points for not being a corporate sellout. At least not at this point. And certainly a band on a mission to try to educate people to their way of thinking. Thought provoking stuff in parts and certainly direct in it's messages.
