Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Revelation: 62 Out of print for over 6 years now this classic record comes with 5 bonus tracks from an ultra-rare collection of Connecticut hardcore bands. Originally released on Kevin Seconds' (7 Seconds) Positive Force label as a 7", "Can't Close My Eyes" captures the band at their earliest, rawest and most exciting. Featuring the original line-up this record set the tone for Youth Of Today's incredibly influential career.

Now the record is being re-issued with 5 bonus cuts from one of the bands first recordings ever. Classics like "We Just Might" and "Take A Stand" can now be heard like never before. These bonus cuts were previously only available on a rare Connecticut local hardcore record titled "Connecticut Fun". Now, they appear with the complete "Can't Close My Eyes" recordings totally remastered and in a completely redesigned package with great photos, lyrics and discography notes.

4.0 out of 5 stars its kinda like..., July 8, 2007
listening to a band play songs while the front man strangles a cat. Seriously, the only problem i could think of on this album is Ray can grate on your nerves if shouting and yelling is not your thing. Some context- Youth of Today are Youth Crew hardcore- essentialy young hardcore band coming out of the east coast during the late 80's. Youth Crew bands were pretty much always straight edge and the songs here reflect those veiws against substance abuse and consumption. Also it should be noted that while there many youth crew bands, and are many youth crew revival acts, Youth of Today is generally regarded as the poster child of this style of hardcore. And with good reason as this album displays.

The music is loud and fast, but its not sloppy. Everything is executed with skill and the melodies are tight. There are some breakdowns here and there, which aren't bad, but certainly don't stand up to many break downs found in songs from recent hardcore bands, so don't go looking to YoT to bring the chug. Ray Kapo keeps the lyrics pretty simple and the songs have a lot of memorable hooks. The messages conveyed are mostly about positive living and a clean life style. The album has had several extra tracks added that are mostly rare tracks from the"Connecticut Fun" compilation, originally released on Incas Records, as well as bonus track that was added to the EP when it was repressed in 1988. The addition of these tracks greatly increases the listening value of this CD as otherwise its over in about 13 min. Also the recordings have all been re-mastered so they do sound somewhat better than the older releases. If you want to explore older Hardcore bands, i'd have to recomend this one. I often hear Youth of Today covers at hardcore shows and on other albums as well, so its also a good listen to put things in perspective for younger fans who may not know much about Youth Crew hardcore.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ah yes, the screams., April 11, 2004
By Steve R. (Calgary, AB) - See all my reviews
I bought this LP years ago at some import shop. Personally, I never thought this LP would see the light of day on CD, but, the time has come I suppose.

I enjoyed this LP, even if it is extremely short. But, atleast this NYHC had a good message for the kids who listened (and could understand) to the lyrics.

Good CD. Definately worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars YOUTH OF TODAY SET THE STANDARDS FOR N.Y.H.C.!!!, November 9, 1999
By Mr. X (Lil' Chicago) - See all my reviews
Youth Of Today will always remain the definition of NYHC...At it's best!! This is definetly an album favorite. The original 1988 version has a cooler cover, but the original version also only had 9 songs on it... Just for the record, the last song on the original is Youth Crew. The other 5 songs on here are bonus, and the other version of Take A Stand is pretty cool too. The sound is killer, the price is way killer and aside from the bonus tracks, it has some killer pix in the booklet. So in other words, if your into NYHC, then I highly recommend it!!
