This thrilling dance/techno/industrial OST shines with UB40's irresistible revamp of "Can't Help Falling In Love," Shaggy's "Oh Carolina" and an Enigma cut. --Jeff Bateman

5.0 out of 5 stars Very ahead of it's time., March 31, 2000
By Roburt (California, USA) - See all my reviews
Too bad the film "Sliver" wasn't a hit, or else this could've been one of the greatest film soundtracks of all-time. While most soundtracks just throw songs together without much thought, there's a theme on this album. You can feel the atmosphere of loneliness, lust, and mystery even if you've never seen the film. Enigma's haunting "Carly's Song" and "Carly's Loneliness" are great tracks to get you in a trance, Massive Attack's "Unfinished Symphony" is downright sexy, and Aftershock's "Slave To The Vibe" is the album's showstopper. The film (which was beautifully shot in an MTV style) could rightfully be a showcase just for these songs, kinda like "Purple Rain". I've had this CD for almost seven years now, and it's still one that can't seem to leave my CD player.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lost and found classic, January 13, 2005
By Greekfreak (Pusan Korea (South)) - See all my reviews
I remember two things about the movie "Sliver": One--it was one of the stupidest movies I'd ever seen, and two--that the soundtrack was so good it was ALMOST worth watching the whole film just to listen to the tunes contained herein.

People beat their heads against the wall when they heard UB40's version of "Can't Help Falling In Love", but they're a bunch of nitwits. It made it to number one on the strength of the band's interpretation--the original was overdone as it was. I liked it, but this soundtrack offers much more.

Shaggy's "Oh Carolina" was a dancefloor classic and still remains a staple of any self-respecting club. Enigma's bookends "Carly's Song" and the reprise "Carly's Loneliness" represent the band's zenith, and when you throw in Massive Attack's "Unfinished Symphony", you've got a powerhouse album that still holds up.

One of the best soundtracks of the 90s, hands down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Becoming a Cult Classic?, November 5, 2001
By A Customer
I first saw the movie Sliver when I was a junior in high school. My girlfriends and I ended up seeing it four times in the theater. It was dark, lonely, and sexy...a story of awakening female sexuality...perfect for what four teenage Catholic schoolgirls were feeling at the time. The soundtrack was this feeling, made portable. I recently re-descovered it, and it really takes me back. I'm not surprised to learn that there are other people out there who still find this soundtrack as sexy and haunting, although quirky, as the B movie that inspired it.
