Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
A hip-hop album with major pop crossover appeal, TLC's 1992 debut was an instant success. The trio of young women--T-Boz, Chilli, and Left Eye--projected a playful and colorful image, wearing bright, floppy clothes and using prophylactics as fashion accessories (Left Eye used to wear a colored condom as an eye patch, hence the nickname). The music was equally vibrant, trading off Left Eye's sandy raps, T-Boz's low-register come-hither croon, and Chilli's sultry R&B vocal melodies, creating an infectious, high-energy buzz. With singles like "Baby-Baby-Baby," "What About Your Friends," and the party-anthem shout-out "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," the group approached subjects like sex and friendship with a youthful, inexplicit innocence. --Beth Bessmer

5.0 out of 5 stars They are one of a kind, June 4, 2005
I only recently purchased this album, after becoming a devoted TLC fan after CrazySexyCool and following thier careers since then. But how wrong I was to believe they really hit the big time with CrazySexyCool - Ooooooohhh...On the TLC Tip furthur exemplifies the groups ever radient individuality and confidence in singing about a range of issues - something that just really lacks in artists today. Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes was a genius and she features more on this album than any of TLC's others. I encourage any TLC fan to complete thier collection, whatever albums may be missing. Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip, CrazySexyCool, Fanmail, 3D and the soon to be released Now and Forever: The Hits is a package of 5 of the greatest R&B CD's you will ever purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars hip-hop at it's best..., April 7, 2001
By "lefteye1814" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
Out of all of their cd's, there's no doubt that their debut had the most Left Eye. If only that were still true. It was released when they were free and didn't where skimpy clothing; they even wrote a song about not liking to where tight clothing. Left Eye wrote all but 2 songs on the album, and appeared on all but 1 song. The best song on the album, in my opinion, is "His Story". Yes, Left Eye didn't rap on this song, but it, in a way, demonstrated the concept of the album: women's rights and their independcy. I suggest this album to anyone who likes TLC, especially their early days.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Best Damn Debut Period", November 26, 2005
By Shaun Sage (Lumberton,NC 2 Kansas) - See all my reviews
I remember this cd bac n 1992 when i was going to Rowland Norman and i was only n the 1st grade. When i 1st heard "Aint to proud to Beg" i fell n luv w/ it...it was like luv on 1st sight. Then when the single Baby Baby came out it was a good slow jam (but at that time a lil dude like me i wasnt n2 alot of slow jams). But being n the 2nd grade hearing "Hat to the Bac" and "What bout ur friends" i used to get n trouble singing the song alot n school because i singed it out."ohh...On the TLC tip" gots to be in ur collection. Laface put out some talented artist n the 90s and TLC is n the group.Like one the other reviewers said they should have released "Das da way we like 'em","Somethin' U wanna Know",and "This is How it should be done" as a single. Man i still luv TLC to this day. RIP LEFTEYE U will always be n my heart.
