4.0 out of 5 stars It's classic style will "live forever.", November 10, 1999
By Daniel Magallon (Spokane, Washington) - See all my reviews
Always a bit sinister and dark the compositions by Alan Silvestri keep the air of first certainly mystery and later impending doom in the air. Lush with instrumentation and simple in orchestration the music ushers you into the sometimes silly and twisted minds of our two far from deceased female leads Madeline and Helen ( "Mad" and "Hell" ). The opening number alone is pure camp, in it's best form, especially when it breaks into period disco. Ms. Streep is a joy to listen to with her unique and brilliant phrasing and the words are so silly...you can't help but want to learn it to sing to your friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, macabre FUN, March 20, 2003
Silvestri has crafted a playful score that perfectly has its tongue planted firmly in its afraid-of-getting-older tongue. Albeit not very long in comparison to other contemporary offerings, it does remind the listener of Silvestri as one of the most versatile of present-day film composers.

He shifts easily throughout the various film genres and "Death" shows that he does indeed have a "comic flair".

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Score for a Comedic Gem, July 16, 2000
By Luis Hernandez (New York, New York, USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
A moody, yet beautiful score by Alan Silvestri highlights this film by Robert Zemeckis perfectly. The entire score is both haunting and eerie in many ways, and even the first track, "Me" (sung by Meryl Streep) is a great comic performances by one of the industry's greatest actresses. That track, which is part of Madeline's performance in the musical version of "Sweet Bird of Youth," has a combination of popular and disco music in order to illustrate the main character's sad descent into low budget productions as she ages.

Along with Jerry Goldsmith, Alan Silvestri is one of the best film score composers alive. His style can't be reproduced and without this beuatiful score, I feel that the movie will lose a very vital factor in telling the story the way Zemeckis intended it to be.

Simply one of the best film scores in recent years. I also recommend the scores to "Total Recall," "Basic Instinct," and the "Matrix" if you liked this album.
