4.0 out of 5 stars Masterfully captures the spirit of the Jackie Chan Movies., September 11, 1999
By A Customer
First Strike combines many elements, such as intrigue, action, and Bond themes (yes, you heard right). 'Back to Stalking' and 'Kidnap Annie' keeps the element of suspense constantly in check, whilst 'Funeral Parlor' captures the excitement of the hand-to-hand combat that Jackie Chan is so famous for. 'Snowmobile Chase' and the 'End Credits' are an homage to the famous Bond Skiing Chase scenes (both in the movie and the music). I reckon Jackie Chan made this movie in honour of the 'Bond' films, just as he made Armour Of God as his own 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.

Rumble In The Bronx is very powerful and entertaining on its own as a musical score, regardless if you've heard it in the movie. This a beautiful contemporary meld of Ancient Chinese Traditional themes with modern classical compositions (except of course 'New York' which is a nice techno-dance clip for the Club Scene). Every track in this movie is definately worth a listen to. It's a pity that there are only three Orchestral tracks here, as I'm sure they could have added much more to this CD and make this an instant collectable. But what is here is enough to satisfy my love of the movie. The last track 'Escape and Conclusion' is from the infamous Hovercraft scene, and it definately keeps you on the edge of your seat, as you can see the whole movie sequence play out in your mind.

It's a real pity that the distributors of this CD did not get the rights to include the song 'Kung Fu' by Ash (which is played during the out-takes). The version in the movie is actually a minute or so longer than the original release of the song, as it is a re-edit to extend over the 'mishaps' made by Jackie Chan on the set.

Considering the short-comings of this CD, I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone who's a fan of Jackie Chan's movies, especially if they'd like to re-capture the musical essence of his movies. I would have given this the full 5 star treatment if only they would have paid more heed to the suggestions above, but overall I'm pleased to hear this CD over and over again.
