Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Evgeny Svetlanov's Tchaikovsky is coarse, vulgar, hysterical, crudely played (with some unbelievably noisy sounds emanating from the brass section), and often exciting as hell. Your reaction to it depends on your tolerance for approximate intonation and willful interpretive excess, and while it's kind of hard to make the case for these recordings as first recommendations, if you don't take them all that seriously, they really are fun to listen to now and then. --David Hurwitz

1.0 out of 5 stars Overdone and not well played, January 4, 2007
By HB "HB" (Fort Mill, SC) - See all my reviews
I suspect the person asking 30 bucks for this CD has no idea how bad it really is. The orchestral playing is very unrefined and the interpretations are way too emotional. Play this music straight and you get all the emotion you need. If you find this CD at your local flea market for less than 5 bucks, it may be worth it just to hear how Tchaikovsky should not be played. Otherwise, simply ignore the 30 dollar asking price here.

4.0 out of 5 stars not very original but good sound , January 14, 2006
At some moment the originality is lost. From Pjotr his fourth and first look very much alike. This is good though. Buy it if you are a real fan of Pjotr`s music.
