4.0 out of 5 stars A fine Chopin interpreter, April 11, 2009
Jeanne-Marie Darré, alongside her teacher, Marguerite Long, Marcelle Meyer, Nicole Henriot, Yvonne Lefebure, Monique de la Bruchollerie, Yvonne Loriod, Genevieve Joy, Monique Haas, and Lucette Descaves, is one in a long line of fine women Pianists France has produced during the twentieth Century. She seems to have been better liked here in America than in her own country, not unlike Camille Saint-Saens, whose Piano Concertos she performed (and recorded) to great acclaim. Though she was not at all dry as her compatriots unjustly maintain, she was not overly fond of pathos either. Her style is straightforward, clear, no-nonsense and moderate (quite unlike the style of her pianistic hero, Vladimir Horowitz). There is amplitude and fullness to her sound. Her tempi are often slower than average, paradoxically perhaps, as she was a dynamic lady in life. One cannot go wrong by purchasing this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Dame of French Piano., January 28, 2005
Mme Darre give us a beautiful interpretation of Chopin's Preludes. I believe her technique is in the same level of Rubinstein's or Arrau's gifts (it is enough to listen to her early recordings, Saint-Saëns Five Piano Concertos, for example). Her sound is full, the "tempi" are correct to me. The Fantasie and the Berceuse sound very beautiful too. A great Dame of French piano. Five stars!
