5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, rocking, vibrating - a masterpiece, October 9, 2001
By V-Lee (Wien) - See all my reviews
The potential of the first black rock band in history was easily perceptible after the release of their self-titled debut-album. In 1979, after 3 studio recordings, they released what they could best: a live album which - in terms of energy, perfectionism and virtuosity (listen to the voice of Joyce!)- could not have been any better. Groovin' Rock-songs that made evrybody dance, combined with some real hitting soul-ballads.
This is the best live album by any black artist, that was ever captured. They tried to re-do this in 1991 with their album "Subluxation", but with the lack of keyboard-genius B.B.Queen, it became rougher and more stompin'. 'Mother's Finest Live!' is a must in every record collection, and after having first listened to it you will say, "Oh yes, 'Niggiz CAN sing Rock'n'Roll!'".

5.0 out of 5 stars There is No Other to Compare to this..., September 13, 2006
By blaine (Tampa, Florida) - See all my reviews
Mother's Finest continues to this day to funk our world. This 1979 live funk rocker was lights-out-dead on. It almost gives you a feel for seeing the band live! Joyce, Moses, Glenn, BB, and Wizzard all here for you to hear. These guys/lady are not a copy band...NO! They do take a few covers and make them their "own". From the roaring intro of "Somebody to Love" to "Don't Wanna Come Back", this is it. If as one reviewer states, Mother's Finest "is not famous", it is not their fault. Like everything else in the radio landscape of 1979-1980, there wasn't a real place for them on the radio. A hard core legion of fans found the band anyway! If there is a shortcoming of the disc, it is that it should have been a 2 CD set. Listen, if Baby Love doesn't get ya, you need help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll Funk, June 11, 2008
By J. B. King (Lakeland Florida) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
Saw MF around the time of this live album release. Thought they were a great little band, shame they never hit the big time. The live show was MF at their best though I also enjoy several of their studio releases. Nice blend of rock and roll with a funk twist in my opinion....
