Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Quiet Riot managed to wake up suburban America and ascend to the top of the charts even after their founding guitar god Randy Rhoads defected to play with Ozzy Osbourne. The band's biggest hit "Cum on Feel the Noize" was actually a Slade cover, but Quiet Riot delivered it with such drive and attitude that it became their own. Aside from that anthill-stomping track, the band's glam-bangin' debut Metal Health features such in-yer-face morsels as "Slick Black Cadillac," "Run for Cover," and the title track, all of which blended the image and good-time vibe of the Sweet, Slade, and Queen with the guitar firepower of Van Halen. --Jon Wiederhorn

5.0 out of 5 stars This album kicked Thriller off the charts!, November 29, 1999
By Bryan S. Sampsel (Colorado Springs, CO United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was only a kid when this album came out...but it was one of the first metal albums I ever listened to. The music was fun and fast...it energized my moody teenage nights.

Now, as a 24 year old adult, it bring a smile to my face...saw 'em live this last summer...rocked the house!

Metal Health is dated now...mostly due to the mixes being so bass-light...but the vocals, drums, and guitar really rocked the world for the times...still do.

This band was always under-rated. I don't know much about DuBrow shooting off his mouth...but which metal band didn't? Motley, Guns-n-Roses...who did mouth off?

remember boys and girls...some of us have been listening to this stuff for years, it's not just a nice cool "let's get back into the 80's thing" for us. When most of you are trying to convince us you never rocked out to this album...I will still be cranking it up!

Rock 'em on the Flip Side DuBrow!

5.0 out of 5 stars Defined a generation, December 10, 1999
Like it or not, these guys kicked open the door for 80's rock. 'Metal Health' is the best album Quiet Riot ever released.

Powerhouse drumming by Frankie Banali finishes up the song "Run for cover." Carlos Cavazo is great with the guitar. The singles were "Metal Health" and "Cum on feel the noize" and these are easily the best songs here but a track like "Let's get crazy" could have been a single, too.

Moving on, "Thunderbird" is a great overlooked ballad. The only questionable song is "Breathless." "Battle Axe" (a guitar solo/song intro) is good for sheer amusement. 'Metal health', the first US album for Quiet Riot, is an excellent disc and a must-have in any hard rock/metal collection. As of this writing, the disc has sold close to 7 million copies, which isn't something to easily dismiss given the genre of music.
