5.0 out of 5 stars Loaded with power, groove, and intelligence., August 5, 2000
By D. Mok (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
I'd never heard of Accept until about two years ago, and even then, it's a band name that nobody ever mentions. I had no idea what the band's music sounds like aside from the scant reviews I've read of Accept's catalogue.

Balls to the Wall was supposedly one of the band's best records so I took a blind stab at it -- and was surprised at how sophisticated-sounding a record this was, given the bad initial impression that the dumb title gave me. And true, Accept can create a party groove as well as AC/DC, but Accept also succeeds in actually writing meaningful lyrics to go along with its loud ethic. The result is a singularly impressive metal record that somehow became a lost gem, known to many headbangers and guitar players, but rarely played. But it's very impressive hard rock: "Head over Heels" and "Fight It Back" features some of the hottest guitar work I remember hearing, the only complaint being a mix that doesn't quite favour the electric guitars enough, and on "London Leatherboys" and "Balls to the Wall" lead singer Udo Dirkschneider sounds like a cross between Bon Scott and Brian Johnson with his psychotic yells, which sound perfectly in place given the rough-and-tumble backdrop his excellent band (I single out guitarists Wolf Hoffman and Hermann Frank and bassist Peter Balter for praise) provides. Old-school metal has never sounded so good -- count me as a new, satisfied convert of Accept's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Accept album, February 27, 2000
On BTTW, Accept rerturned to a more melodic style, but not quite as melodic as their first album. The best songs here are "London Leatherboys," the title track, "Fight It Back," & "Love Child." This album is kind of a transition between "Restless & Wild" & their next 3 albums.
