5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the Cooper Sound, July 30, 2004
By Graboidz (Westminster, Maryland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Alice combines what was great about 'Constrictor' & 'Raise Your Fist and Yell' with some of the elements from 'Trash'. Like 'Trash', 'Hey Stoopid' features some guest stars, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, Ozzy, Slash and Joe Satriani. But unlike 'Trash' the guest performers have not taken control of the album, they are there simply to back Alice up. Alice's anti-drug message title track is fun and kicks the album off to a great start. But Alice really shines on the ballad's 'Love's a Loaded Gun' and 'Might As Well Be on Mars'. It's amazing listening to Alice's voice. It really hasn't changed much since the 'Love It To Death' days. Most of the songs on this disk are straight ahead heavy metal that Alice is known for. 'Feed My Frankenstein' was made famous by the 'Wayne's World' movie, and is one of the most clever songs Alice has written. The sexual innuendo is a riot. 'Snakebite' and 'Hurricane Years' are fun songs with chorus' that will keep running through your head. But the highlight of the album for me is the final song, 'Wind-up Toy'. 'Wind-up Toy' is about a Cooper character who resides in a mental institution and the last 30 seconds of the song are genuinely creepy. But what makes this a 5 star song is that once the music fades you hear the haunting little boy voice call out 'Steeeveen'. I love that Alice updated his fans on his creepy little boy/great big man character from 'Welcome to my Nightmare'. If you like 80's metal you should enjoy this disk, if you like Cooper but disliked 'Trash' and were afraid to commit to 'Hey Stoopid' don't worry, this is the Alice Cooper we have come to know and love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cooper album in years, August 26, 2002
This was a great album. It was the best non-concept album Alice Cooper had done in years. His voice sounds mature and clear in these songs. Ozzy, Slash, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and others make guest appearances on the record. Alice should have put together his own band, instead of just using guest stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars ALICE IS ON FIRE!, November 27, 2002
By "dragondamsel" (Cooperland, AZ) - See all my reviews
Just when I thought TRASH was the epitome of lustful indulgence, along comes Alice with a follow-up that absolutely explodes in your face -- and eardrums! The Master has outdone himself again (no big surprise there, really); although this time around he's out for bloodthirsty revenge; love has gone completely out of control. In "Love's a Loaded Gun" he declares, "You push me to the limit, I can't take it"; while in "Burning Our Bed" he admits that even "Sometimes a man can bleed." "Might As Well Be On Mars," the ultimate ballad of unrequited love, shows a sensitive side of Alice that usually stays well-hidden... "You've turned my world into a dark and lonely place, like a planet lost in space." Then once again, he jumps back into his usual scowling, ferocious act with "Feed My Frankenstein." (Velcro candy? Ice cream cones? Yum, yum! Lead me to the banquet!) The most surprising track on this sexy CD features Steven-remember him?-as a hyperactive, drugged-up child locked away in the "quiet room" with his delusions. Definitely a must-have!
