5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond comparison, February 3, 2004

I have been listening to this album since I was only months old - going on 30 years now. My parents bought it on LP, and played it for me when I was young, and it was always on of my most favorite records. It is simply the most amazing collection of transcriptions and recordings I have ever heard, period. Listen to "Passacaglia and Fugue for organ in C minor" just once, and it will remain in your memory forever. "Toccata and Fugue for organ in D minor" is Bach's work of genius, and this remains the only recording I have ever heard by a full Symphony - transcribed and directed by Ormandy himself, no less. It is truly a shame that this recording is out of print on all mediums now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhhhh! Bach, January 30, 2005
This two CD set is a wondeful collection of some of Ormandy's best Bach transcriptions. The transcription of the Passacaglia and Fugue in c minor is one of the most powerful pieces of music I have ever heard (and I've listened to a ton of music). Add the Tocata and Fugue in D minor and some of the other Ormandy/Bach greats and this is something that every lover of classical music should have in their collection. I'm sorry to see that this album is out of print. What a shame.

This CD includes some works by J.S. Bach's sons performed by a full orchestra. Very charming music as well. Particularly the piece by C.P.E. Bach. A good introduction to the Bach sons and the transition away from the baroque towards the stil galant and classical styles.

I welcome feedback on this and all reviews at wstrnlibwarrior@yahoo.com
