BENNETT at his BEST, April 30, 2000
This 2CD set gives us the complete concert, unabridged and wonderful, rather than the choppy edited lps. Even though it took over 30 years for this material to see the light of day, it was worth the wait. The original LPs were outstanding; this is HEAVEN! "Smile", "Without a Song" and MANY others, which are Bennett standards, are finally here for all to enjoy. They must have picked him up off the floor that night, as his energy is boundless, his musicianship tremendous, as is his personality. LIVE albums are always the true test of ANY artist, no matter what the genre. It's a joy to hear a sublime singer, in an complete concert, without overdubbs, studio "help", and with great remastered sound. This CD will be among your VERY favorites.

....has no idea what he's talking about. This two-disc set showcases Tony Bennett at his best. He was, and still is, a fabulous singer. In many ways, he was more compelling in a concert setting than in the studio. On this night at Carnegie Hall in 1962, the acoustics must have been perfect. His voice, though always great, sounded extra special. I'm fortunate to have this as part of my eclectic collection.

Tony in his prime ... great concert!, December 15, 1999
1962 was a great time for Tony Bennett. He is having a ball during the show, and having the whole concert on the album makes for a perfect evening listen. 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco' is introduced as a new popular song (! )Columbia's recording is first-rate. The good news is that the richness of 1960s Bennett that comes through on the studio albums is preserved in this live recording. 'Without a Song' is momentarily interrrupted by an audience request, handled gracefully by the singer, but this is nitpicking. I was glad to see the previously unreleased tracks restored, including the first tracks on the second CD. Taking a Chance on Love, Chicago and Smile are too classic to omit. Enjoy.
