5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sounds of Halloween, September 13, 2001
By Steven Isaacson (San Jose, California USA) - See all my reviews
In 1977, I was about four years old when this album came on record. My parents bought it for Halloween, I was spooked out of the chair. The story is great, and dozens of sounds. When I went into the cabinet I found the original record. I was amazed it still exists. The more amazing thing is that it is now on CD. I love it when old records are put on CD format. This is good to listen to all year long. Let Halloween remind you to play this awesome CD (record). This is definitely a must have. Give Horrors a try, if you got guts. Ha-Ha-Ha.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahh to be a kid again..., January 22, 2006
My brother and I would listen to this in our basement while growing up. Our Mom was into anything scary so her having this album in the collection wasnt a surprise. I was born in '74, and I remember hearing this for the first time around 1980 I suppose. I'd say the last time we listened to it was around 1990(16 years ago). We got rid of the record player but where the record went, we never knew. We recently sold the house and it really bothered me how we were leaving without that one single record. I didnt remember the exact name of it so I didnt know where to start. How was I pointed in the right direction? Its quite amazing really. I was watching M*A*S*H the other night and one of the chopper pilots voice caught my attention. I watched the ending credits to see his real name was Michael Bell. I hopped on Google and there it was, Halloween Horrors. I literally got goose bumps when I found it. I tried about 5 years ago but like I said, I didnt know where to start. I just had my brother listen to it and needless to say, he was shocked I found it, and that it was on CD no less! He and his Fiance are listening to it right now. Hopefully when they have kids, they will sit them down so they can experience it as we did. Get this CD/Album, its a classic and knows No generation gaps. Your children will love it, and if you grew up with it is as my brother and I did, you owe it to yourself to get this for old times sake :) -Aaron-

4.0 out of 5 stars The inspirational Halloween sound effect album of yesteryear, October 31, 2003
By Lawrance M. Bernabo (The Zenith City, Duluth, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
(TOP 10 REVIEWER)    (COMMUNITY FORUM 04)
"Halloween Horrors" is the classic Halloween sound effects record because it is much more than several dozen sounds effects. The first track is a fourteen-minute narrative, "The Story of Halloween Horror" that is a halfway decent story. But more importantly, it basically uses a lot of the 55 sound effects included on the rest of the album, although we are talking much more Creaking Doors, Rain, and Groans than Swords Clashing and the Giant Space Ship. The reason so many of us have fond memories of this album, which was originally released in 1977, was that the story got you thinking "Hey, I can do that," and then you could start playing around with your cassette tape record to do your own little dramas complete with sound effects. You could even have the Giant Space Ship descend on knights fighting with clashing swords, because once your imagination is unleashed where are you going to draw the line? There are plenty of sound effects collections with more sounds and better sounds, but I have not seen a similar effort that is as inspirational as "Halloween Horrors." This is not an atmospheric recording that you can play in the background while passing out the candy on Halloween. This is a basic set of sound effects that you can use to basically put together your own little radio plays. On second thought, that last comment probably dated me too much, because I am sure kids today are using sound effects for their computer generated films and more.
