5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ... one of the best soundtracks I've heard, October 20, 2000
Ennio Morricone, in my view, is undoubtedly one of the best film composers of the current era. I would extend that to also say he is one of the best of all time. Morricone has done a lot of scores for Italian films, so he's not nearly as popular as someone like John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith in the U.S. Which is really a shame. But he has done a decent amount of soundtracks that American audiences are aware of, working with directors such as Sergio Leone and Brian De Palma, for example.

Regardless, The Untouchables soundtrack is so good, I come close to calling it a masterpiece. Every track sounds great on its own, and also works incredibly well in the film itself. It always captures the mood and emotions of the scenes where it is played. I love it. If you have any doubts, rent the film (which is excellent in its own right) and notice the music. I think that alone will convince even the most skeptical viewer.

This is not the easiest soundtrack to find. Thankfully, Amazon has it, and for a good price. An absolute must for movie soundtrack fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartpounding, touching, and playful..., January 15, 2003
While it seems an odd cluster of words to describe a score, they fit more times than not. Morricone's score for DePalma's revisionist action melodrama dances around (and through) the bare knuckled action with the ease only a master can have, and every film music fan knows that Morricone is a master. This score gets the heart rate racing (The Strength of the Righteous or Waiting At The Border) and the mouth grinning (Al Capone) or the heart swelling (the End Title theme). Morricone fans will want to have this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great and Underrated Soundtrack, October 27, 2003
By Matthew Edmundson (Winter Haven, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Untouchables was a spectacular film. It cleaned house at the box office and won Sean Connery his Oscar. It helped establish Kevin Costner as one of the best in Hollywood and the soundtrack is equal to all of those achievements.

When people think of Hollywood composers only few come to mind. Obviously John Williams is the best to ever do it and has written some of the most amazing scores ever. There's other popular guys such as Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, and Danny Elfman. Ennio Morricone score for The Untouchables is as equal or better to some of the names mentioned above.

The Untouchables soundtrack does what a soundtrack should do. It compliments the movie very well. Music is an important and often underrated part of cinema. Music makes situations more tense, scarier, funnier, ligtens mood, and brings out action. Ennio Morricones' score does just that. It helps bring the shoot outs better, adds emotions to love scenes with Ness his wife and child, and helps make Al Capone more cocky. It really does the movie well.

I play the Trumpet and I love the trumpets in the soundtrack. There is a good mix of music and everything is blended well. Morricone brings an Italian flair to his score and it can be heard in some songs.

I love the soundtrack. It is hard to find and I was glad to see that Amazon had it. For any classical music fan or soundtrack fan this is a must. Don't miss out on it.
